August 25: A Beautiful Day

Yummy Bug!

So, I think I forgot to mention in yesterday’s blog that my eating was very erratic.  I woke up and didn’t seem the least bit hungry.  I skipped a bottle around midday but then ate 8 ounces of formula around 2:00.  Mom & Dad definitely started to get a bit worried about me — Mom even thought I might have a fever!

Well, today made up for everything.  Not only was it a beautiful day outside, but I ate regularly and plenty each time.  I took a couple long naps in the morning and in the early afternoon, but I got a little bit cranky toward the end of the evening.

I was so excited to see Mom when she got home!  I gave her a huge smile and I hung out with her until I fell asleep around 7:30.

Woah - Flying sideways!

August 24: Hanging with Bridget & Aimee

When do I get to eat real food?

I slept pretty well and woke up Sunday to another pretty uneventful morning.  Again, Dad didn’t take me on a Starbucks run.  We had lunch plans with Mom’s and Dad’s friends Bridget & Aimee (I went to their wedding as a fetus!).  Dad went for his daily run and I hung out with Mom for much of the morning.

Bridget & Aimee stopped by around 11:00 (I was napping at the time).  When I woke I came down to a group anxiously awaiting my arrival.  Bridget grabbed me and I got passed around a bit.  Rather than feeding me at home, Mom and Dad packed up my bottle and the five of us all headed out to Letizia’s for lunch.  (Well, Bridget & Aimee had already eaten, but Mom, Dad, and I were starving.)

Aimee and Bridget held me the entire time, including giving me my bottle.  We headed back home and then gave Aimee & Bridget a ride to Midway Airport.  To no one’s surprise, I slept in the car.

Mom went for a pedicure and I mostly played by myself while Dad worked on some food for dinner.  We had to make a quick trip to Jewel for a missing ingredient and we got back just in time to meet Mom.

After dinner, Mom, Dad, and I went for a walk (I was in the Bjorn).  For the first time I can remember, it was actually a little bit chilly.  We got back.  Mom gave me a bath.  Dad got me ready for bed.  And Mom fed me and put me in my crib.

I’m gonna eat those fingers!

August 23: Playing in the Office

Why is there a frog on my head? DAD!

So, I woke up Saturday morning and, shockingly, didn’t head out to Starbucks with Dad.  Instead I hung out with Dad downstairs where mostly we sat together and played with my toys.  When I started to get hungry, Dad took me up to Mom and went for his daily run.

Mom had plans to go to the Cubs game with her friends Bridget & Aimee, which started at noon.  Dad & I drove Mom up to Wrigley Field and then headed down to Dominick’s for our weekly trip to the grocery store.

We came back home and Dad fed me while he watched Obama’s and Biden’s first joint appearance.  He put be down for a nap in the office while he started working on something for dinner.  What Dad didn’t realize, though, is that even though I can’t crawl yet, I am totally mobile!  So, by the time Dad came to get me after I had woken up, I had  almost scooted off the futon!

When Mom was on her way home, we went for a walk and met her at the bus stop.  We got home and spent most of the evening down in the office.  Dad mostly played with me while Mom mostly organized/cleaned the room.  Sounds like Dad got the better end of that deal!

Mom’s trying to move my bedtime up a bit, so I started my goodnight routine at 7:45 instead of 8:00…

Um, I was sitting up just a minute ago…really, I was!

August 22: Family Reunion!

Hey! I don’t need safety pillows!

For the first time in more than ten days, Mom, Dad, and I were all together today!  That was so exciting.  Dad took care of me overnight and when he brought me downstairs Nana was there to take over.  I spent most of the day sitting (it’s amazing what happens as soon as I reach some new milestone!) with an occasional flop over that resulted in my face planted in the floor!

Mom got home early (well, later than usual for a Friday, but earlier than we expected) and after dinner, the three of us took a walk to Oberweis (see a trend?).  We got home, I took a bath, and I went to bed!

I’m a side-sleeper (with supervision!)…

August 19-21: I Can Sit!

Hey, now that I can sit I’m all business…

On Tuesday morning I was back to my regular schedule, with Nana and Grandpa Yagan around.  Nana and I took our usual early morning stroll to Wicker Park, but this time Nana brought not a bottle and a camera!  I ate breakfast in the park and Mom took a bunch of pictures of all over the park.  I took a tiny little 20 minute nap after breakfast, but made up for that with a 3.5 hour nap in Nana’s arm after my 10:00 bottle.  My chest was still a bit congested all day but it didn’t really bother me otherwise.  We had a second outing at 6:00 and got home at the same time Mom did.

Wednesday started with Nana watering the flowers that Grandma Droste planted last weekend.  Nana loves the flowers and takes really good care of them.  We then headed out to Wicker Park and then I took a long (2:45) nap.  I had a nice poop, another couple bottles, and all-in-all had a fun afternoon.

Thursday was the most special day of the week!  First, Dad came home!  I hadn’t seen  him in days!  He was really worried that I might not have remembered him, but I greeted him with a huge smile.  He didn’t let go of me all afternoon!  But Nana and I had a little surprise for him: I can sit by myself! Dad was so, so, so excited to have been there on the day I achieved this really exciting milestone. 🙂

I was so busy getting caught up with Dad but I still missed Mom when she wasn’t around when I went to bed.  Hopefully I’ll see her tomorrow!

Daddy missed me soooo much!

August 16-18: Miss My Parents? Not at All!

Hmm, tastes like a skinny vanilla latte to me…

I woke up Saturday morning, expecting to see Dad.  But after Mom got me up and fed me, instead of handing me off to Dad, like most Saturdays, Mom headed downstairs and I got a different surprise — Aunt Claire!  Yay!

Of course, A/C continued Dad’s usual Saturday morning  tradition of making a Starbucks run. When we got back home, she fed me my bottle and hung out with me.  Then I found out my second surprise of the weekend — Grandpa Droste was visiting, too!  I wish Aunt Sarah could have been here, too (but I hear rumors that she’ll be coming soon!).

Grandpa, A/C, and I went to Potbelly’s to pick up lunch (I’m really getting jealous of all this variety everyone else gets to have.  I just have two choices: real milk or fake milk!)I sat at the lunch table with everyone while they ate (really really quickly!).  Grandma Droste did some yard work while I hung out with A/C and her friends Charlie and Julie.  I got to watch them have lunch (at Milk & Honey).  Julie & Charlie were so fun…and they must have liked me, too, because they offered to babysit me!

On Sunday morning we went to the Wicker Park farmers’ market.  We stopped by the organic babyfood stand — the food looked so yummy!  Last time I visited the stand was a couple months ago with Dad.  I hope it’ll still be there when I’m eating solids in just a couple weeks!

On Monday I hung out with Grandmaand A/C until Mom got home around 3:00.  I missed her so much!  But where’s Dad? 😦

Mom was amazed that the yard looked so nice and the house was so clean.  And of course, I was so happy!  I spent the rest of the day getting caught up with Mom!

I want Aunt Claire’s hair!

August 13-15: Hanging with Grandma Droste

Learning about flowers from my master-gardener-Grandma!

This was a really cool week for me, as I got a lot of quality time with Grandma Droste (hopefully Nana and Grandpa Yagan enjoyed their week off!).  It’s so cool to remember that there are so many people who love me.  My days actually weren’t so different — lots of play time and lots of time outside.

On Wednesday, Grandma and I went on three walks.  In the morning we went on a really long walk up Damen Avenue. On another outing we hung out in Wicker Park and then on our third trip we walked along Division.  On one of our trips, we came home with sunflowers and cantaloupe.

I still wasn’t a champ napper, but I took two naps longer than 45 minutes each.  After Mom got home, the three of us took a trip to Oberweis.  I’m starting to get jealous!

On Thursday we did a lot of tummy-time and I got a lot of practice sitting up — I’m so close to being able to do it on my own!  I took a pretty long nap — on Grandma’s arm!  And a really long nap (2 hours!) later in the afternoon.  We even squeezed in a trip to Dominick’s!

On Friday I learned that I have a favorite book called (ever so cleverly) Colors.  I especially liked the the orange (Dad’s favorite color!) and the blue door.  I took another long (1.5 hour) nap, too.

Before Mom got home, Grandma and I cleaned the house for Mom & Dad.  We did an especially good job on the bathrooms and we made Mom’s and Dad’s bed.  After Mom got home, the three of us ran to Home Depot.

Grandma sat with me in the back of the car whenever we all went anywhere.  And throughout the week she gave me my first singing lessons ever!  Well, more like we traded high-pitched squeals.  But hey, if I ever make American Idol, I’ve got her to thank.

All in all, it was a really fun week with Grandma Droste!

Let’s turn the baseball game on!

August 12: Ouch! 2 More Shots…

Um, that’s a bit too close!

We had a pretty uneventful morning.  Dad had to travel for work, but Mom took the day off to stay home with me.  I guess she missed me so much after being gone all last week!

We went to pick up Grandma  Droste at the train station around 1:00 pm.  I fell asleep on the way, as is becoming pretty common for me.  When I woke up, Grandma was really glad to see me.  I totally remembered her from my last trip to Dow over July 4th and greeted her with a big smile.

After lunch we headed off to my doctors’ office to get the shots that I couldn’t get yesterday because of my temperature on Sunday night.  They are in a new office now, but it’s still not very fun or kid-friendly.  Oh well, I guess that’s just more incentive not to get sick!

I got two shots today, my second HIB and my second polio.  There hasn’t been a case of polio diagnosed in the US in over 20 years, so I guess I’m doing this for the public good.  I cried much less than I have at any of my previous visits, and by the time we got home I wasn’t even fussy — just really sleepy.

Mom had to go to women’s admissions panel for Stanford so Grandma did the bedtime routine — which went perfectly!

I’m immunized and…sleepy!

August 11: Happy Birthday, Magaroni!

My new ride…even though it’s supposed for be for six-month-olds!

That’s right, I’m 5 months old today!  I felt a lot better today — but not good enough to have to go to the doctor’s office to get my latest round of vaccinations.  Apparently I have to have 24 hours without a fever before I can get my shots.

For my birthday, Mom and Dad got out the stroller that I got from Marty & Sara!  They’re so nice!  This new stroller is supposed to be for 6-month-old babies, but apparently I’m super-advanced.  I really like it because I can sit up straight and face forward.

I’m dreading getting my shots tomorrow.  I sure hope Mom doesn’t convince Dad that I should get caught up on all the vaccinations I am behind on.  That would hurt!

I’m going to walk before I can crawl!

August 10: Busy Morning, Sleepy Afternoon

I’m sitting with no help from Mr. Boppy! (And I’m still sick!)

My cold has had one clear effect: my face has turned into a waterfall!  I’ve got saliva coming out of my mouth and snot coming out of my nose like there’s no tomorow.

Dad and I spent much of the morning together, including a trip to our front yard (actually, our side yard, I guess).  I’m getting so good at almost sitting.  But every minute or two I do a face-plant, so I guess that doesn’t quite count yet.

In the afternoon I took one of my longest naps ever (maybe the longest ever!): 4 hours.  Mom and Dad were shocked and worried about me, but I really needed it to help get over this cold.

The three of us went for a walk, as usual, in the evening.  After we got back, Mom got even more worried about me and decided that something was really wrong.  So, Mom and Dad took my temperature (for the first time since March!) and I had a temperature of 100.4.

Oh No! The Drool Police!
