1/31: Turning Down Parsnips

I really like myself!

I woke up pretty early and in a much worse mood than usual (I almost never wake up crying).  Perhaps related to that, I spit up twice this morning after my bottle (I can’t remember the last time I spit up).  Sorry, Elmo, don’t take it personally.

Dad got home around 8:20 and we were so excited to see each other.  We just made strange noises and he kissed me a million times.  Dad put me to bed for my nap and when I got up, it was time to go to the grocery stores, as usual on Saturday mornings.  Whole Foods was the first stop.  I waved to everyone I saw (both hi and bye) and everyone there was really nice.  There was even this one customer we met who would shriek back and me whenever I shrieked at him!

Dominick’s was especially fun because Dad let me sample the jack cheese with little pieces of pepper in it.  I really liked the spicy flavor.  We made it through pretty quickly and I giggled a lot when Dad made faces at me.  We got back home and I ate lunch (actually, I rejected most of it — parsnips are boring and the chicken was too dry!).  Then we had an interior designer come by to tell us how we could make our home a little prettier.  I decided  to be really, really fussy.  So fussy that Dad had to leave the meeting to take care of me and could only settle me down by getting some finger foods out of the fridge.  I finished the green beans and ate some cheese and apples.

At 3:00 I accidentally weaned myself from my second bottle.  I refused to cooperate with Dad’s attempts to give me my bottle, so Dad put my formula in a cup and I actually drank most of it (well, most of what didn’t end up on my clothes).  I think this may become standard!  After I ate I got to take a nap with Mom in her bed.  That’s my favorite!  Dad didn’t join us because he was cooking some food for me.

I didn’t wake up from my nap until 5:30, so my day was almost over.  I played with Mom and Dad (mostly Mom).  I crawled, I danced, and I had a good time.  Dad keeps trying to get me to learn how to go down the two steps from the kitchen to the living room and he also keeps trying to trick me into standing up all by myself.  Usually, he fails.

At 7:00 Dad gave me a bath and put me to bed.  I didn’t fall asleep right away because I slept so long and so late, but after talking to myself for about half an hour, I was done for the day.

So what if my shirt was thirsty?

1/27-1/30: My Last Week w/Grandma Droste (for a while)

Don’t mess with me when I am eating!

The last couple months have been quite as an adventure, as I’ve gotten to spend a ton of time with the Droste side of my family while Nana Yagan was traveling.  Grandma Droste has spent a few weeks up taking care of me, but this week was probably my last chance to hang out with her until my birthday!

The only disappointment of the week was that we had a camera malfunction, so we don’t have pictures from every day.

Tuesday morning was great.  I had my full bottle in the morning with Mom.  At breakfast, they finally got the clue and started giving me prune — much needed prunes, at that.  I took a nice long nap from 10:00 to noon and then had lunch (I love curry!).  The most exciting news of the day is that I finally got blinds in my room!  I have always had curtains, but since I have the bedroom with the most windows in the whole house, without blinds my room was cold, loud, and bright.  Hopefully, no longer!  I celebrated my improved room with another 2-hour nap.  I only drank 4 ounces of my evening bottle…hmm.

Breakfast on Wednesday was a bit rocky; I just wasn’t in the mood for millet.  I finally got it down (thanks to Grandma adding some formula) and then we read a bunch of books on the floor next to the couch.  I fell asleep in  Grandma’s arms — it was so cozy with the big fleece blanket!  I got my latest new food — red beans and rice.  I loved it.  Finally I am starting to get food with real flavor!  The rice was a bit mushy, but otherwise it was great.  Then, maybe thanks to the beans, I let out a ridiculously loud burp — so loud it scared me!  The rest of my day was fun, with lots of playing and eating (which involved food getting in my hair, nose, chair, floor and even the back of my shirt!

Thursday was a really exciting day.  The first big event was that Grandma and I went out for a walk.  It was really cold (but sunny) so we bundled up  and headed across Division street, all the way to Wendy’s (don’t worry, Mom, we didn’t go in!).  One our way back we stopped by everyone’s favorite: Milk & Honey.  I waved and blew kisses to everyone there!  The second big news was that my schedule was rearranged.  Instead of getting bottles when I get up and before I sleep, my second bottle was moved to 3:00 pm.  The afternoon bottle sure helped me take a good nap!  I think I am going to like this new schedule.  We’ll see how long it lasts…

Friday was a rare day that I got to spend time with both of my Grandmas!  Grandma Droste and I played and hung out most of the morning.  I took a nice long nap, but other than that it was pretty uneventful.  Around 3:00 Nana came over so that Grandma could  head for the train station!  It was definitely sad to see Grandma Droste leave, but I am so happy that I got to spend so much time with her and also excited to be spending more time with Nana again.  I am so lucky to have two wonderful grandmas!

Dad makes it seem like the treadmill is hard work…

1/26: Curry Face!

Holy Carrot!

I woke up around 6:30 and Dad was here to get me dressed and give me my morning bottle.  I was so happy to see Grandma Droste here to hang out with me this week!  I’ve missed her over the last couple weeks.

Breakfast went really well.  I loved the millet!  Grandma is so patient and let’s me eat everything with my fingers, even though it takes so much longer.  We read Busy Kittens three times — and a few other books, too.  I played around with the mirror, making all kinds of cute faces at myself.  After several attempts, I finally took a good long nap from 10:30 to 12:00.

I had lunch (curry, again), which I “inhaled,” according to Grandma (shoveling it in with both hands!).  Dad stopped by while I was eating and I tried to smear curry all over his face (as it ended up all over mine).

After hanging out in the office for a while, I tried to sneak my way up the steps, but Grandma Droste caught me.   Then we moved back upstairs, I left a trail of curiosity and destruction as I tore apart my mat, made a mess of the bibs, etc.

I refused to take my afternoon nap, despite numerous efforts by Grandma to get me to fall asleep.  Instead, we hung out on the couch, looking out the window and I kept trying to say “car.”  I got especially excited whenever a dog went by.

We played, made music, dang, and read books.  Supper went really well and then Mom came home.  We played and had a really good time.  Mom gave me my bottle and put me to bed!

High speed collision!

1/25: All Day with Uncle D

Amazing.

I woke up at 7:00, giving Dad more sleep than he expected.  We went downstairs and by the time I had my bottle, Mom had joined us.  We couldn’t go down to the office because Uncle Danny and his friend Dan were still asleep.  At around 8:00, Dad and I went to Dominick’s.  We got the friendly cashier, Olga, who was really happy to see me (and went so slowly that everyone in line behind us had to hide their frustration).

We filled up gas and swung by Nana’s and Grandpa’s place just to drop something off for Grandpa.  We got back home and I hung out with Mom, Dad, and Uncle D.  I stood up for 36 seconds, breaking my previous record by 3 seconds!

I struggled to get much napping in (two little half-hour naps in the morning), mostly because I was having “digestive issues” (I could definitely use some prunes…).  I had curry for lunch, which I really liked.  I spent most of the afternoon hanging out with Mom, Dad, and Uncle Danny.  I got a decent nap in there, too.  Uncle D fed me dinner and then I watched a few videos of myself before Dad gave me my bottle and bath and put me to bed.

High Five!

1/24: Nana’s Back!

A welcome back shriek!

I woke up at 5:45 today, but spent about an hour babbling in my crib until Dad came to get me out.  I had my bottle and then hung out down in the basement to make sure that we wouldn’t wake Mom up.  At 7:30 I had breakfast and Mom came down to join us.  We all played until about 9:00 when I got tired and Dad tried to get to take a nap, which I did…for all of 30 minutes.  When I didn’t seem like I was going to go back to sleep, Dad and Mom and I played in their bed for over an hour.  Dad loves to roughhouse with me so much!  One of these days I’m going to fall of the bed…I just know it!

Then we packed up and headed over to Nana’s & Grandpa’s place for Nana’s welcome-back lunch.  She was so excited to see me.  I pretended to be a little shy, but after a few minutes I was back to my usual sociable self.  Nana brought me so many gifts from her trip!

Lunch was fun.  I sat in Mom’s lap and then Nana’s, because I didn’t have a highchair there.  Everyone seemed to make a big deal of it when I smeared feta cheese in my hair.  Whatever!

I took a nap and then hung out with Nana, Grandpa, and Uncle Danny while Mom and Dad went to see the IMSA girls basketball team lose 31-13 to Geneseo.  They hit bad traffic coming home, so I didn’t even get picked up until after my bedtime.  I was in a surprisingly great mood, though.  Mom, Dad, and I even danced to Hall and Oates before I went to sleep…about 45 minutes late!

You can play, too!

1/23: Bye Aunt Claire!

Determination.

I slept in until almost 6:00 today and my bottle with Mom as usual.  When I got downstairs with A/C we read Elmo books and watched some of my favorite videos — of myself!

I was in a good mood all morning, especially when Aunt Claire shared her apple with me again.  After breakfast, I took a nap and woke up with my hair sticking STRAIGHT UP!   Aunt Claire, aren’t you supposed to be my fashion advisor?

It was finally above freezing for the first time in a while so A/C and I went for a walk.  I can’t remember the last time I was in my Baby Bjorn — I love it!  We went to the post office and — shocker — Starbucks!  The Bjorn is so cool because I can exercise my legs and wave to everyone we pass by.

Oh, I’ve learned to put my hand on my head if someone says “uh oh” or “oh no”!

I took a bit of nap in the afternoon and then Mom came home early so that we could take A/C to the train station.

We had a bit of a debacle when it came to bath time.  I was fighting to stand up in the tub from the moment I got in.  Mom kept pulling me back, telling me how dangerous it us.  One time I was squirming so much to get away that I slipped and lurched, hitting my head on the side of tub!  I screamed like crazy and Mom pulled me out of the bath, hugged me really tight, and tried to comfort me.  My head turned red and I got a pretty big bump over my left eye.  Hopefully it won’t be in tomorrow’s pictures!

Comb, anyone? Geez!

1/22: Fete or Feta?

My scary look…

I got up at 5:15 again and hung out with Mom while she got ready to go to work.  We went downstairs and I ready my Elmo book with  Aunt Claire.  I was in a very talkative mood and had fun playing hide and seek under the blanket.

I took a nap and then had a teething biscuit — but only ate a bit of it. I had lunch, struggled with a poop, and then kept babbling even more than ever.  My afternoon nap was a bit of failed experiment.  A/C was nice enough to share her apple with me (my first raw apple ever!).

Uncle Danny came over around 5:00 and hung out with us during dinner.  I got my first ever taste of feta cheese in my asparagus & feta dish.  I have to say it’s not my favorite kind of cheese.  Maybe it’ll grow on me.

When Mom got home we danced together for a bit before going upstairs to take a bath.  As Mom was taking me from the rug in to the tub – I peed!  Surprise!  Better before the bath than after, right?

Duck, duck, goose!

1/21: Let’s Do Lunch

I want to eat the camera!

I woke up a little earlier than usual today (5:15) and had my bottle with Mom before coming downstairs to hang out with A/C.  I was in a really good mood, especially after we read Animal Sounds six times.  I had breakfast and then had a really good nap — almost two hours!

I had quite an exquisite lunch: cauliflower & cheese (finger foods) as my appetizer, poached halibut as my entree, and a fruit smoothie for dessert.  I can get used to this!

I was a bit crappy right after lunch as I worked on a hard poop.  After that worked itself out and I took a quick nap, I was back in a good mood.  I watched my favorite Beyonce video, talked to Grandma Droste on the phone, and then had dinner.  I was pretty crabby before bed, but Mom came home and made everything better!

Fear the teeth!

1/20: My Inaugural Inauguration Day

Roberts screwed up the oath!

I got up right around 7:00 and Mom & Dad got me dressed and we scuttled out the door to visit Grandpa Yagan in his recovery room at the hospital.  Dad and I went in (while Mom went to get a vaccination!) to visit; Grandpa was so happy to see me, as was Uncle Danny.   Mom came in and met us and we hung out for about an hour.

We headed home and I had breakfast and hung out with Mom & Dad & Aunt Claire.  They tried to time my nap so that I would be in my crib during Obama’s inauguration speech, but I was having none of that.  I did sleep right through it, but in Dad’s arms on the recliner.

Oh, here’s a fun video from earlier this week:

After I woke up from my nap, Mom and A/C each had separate dinner plans (Mom with Kyle; A/C with Maddi) so I hung out with Dad for a few hours.  He totally tricked me into standing up by holding out various pieces of technology and only giving them to me if I stood up to grab them.  Then after A/C got back, she tricked me in to standing up by playing some of my favorite songs and getting me first to dance holding her hands and then leaving me to try to dance all by myself!

Oh, here’s another (less fun) video from earlier this week:

I was sooo fussy after my short nap at 4:00. I refused to hang out with Dad and just insisted on being held by Mom. I think I hurt Dad’s feelings! As soon as he left I was in a really great mood! (Okay, well, I also ate dinner and got some Tylenol, so they may have had something to do with it.) I took a bath for the second day in a row (because I rubbed halibut in my hair during lunch) and then went to sleep.

Standing for (a) Change

1/19: Back to the Hospital

You wish you had my hoodie!

I got up really early and Dad took off to be with Grandpa Yagan during his surgery.  Mom and I played but I could tell she was so tired!  Everyone kept trying to make me stand up today, but I wouldn’t have any of it.

Around lunch time, I had a play date with Mom’s friends’ kids Finn and Maeve.  I had a really fun time.  For lunch I ate fish (halibut) for the first time  and I even shared some with Finn!

On our way home from Finn’s, we stopped by the very hospital that I was born in (one building over).  Grandpa Yagan had just gotten out of his surgery and I came by to cheer him up!  As soon as he saw me, he smiled really big and waved at me.

We got home just in time for dinner and then Dad gave me my bath and put me to bed!

Gimme 5, Finn!
