1/8: No Nap, No Problem

Tasty blinds.

I spent much of the morning watching people out the window…oh, and sucking on the blinds cord.  I got to spend more time in the pack ‘n’ play, which is becoming more and more fun.  I totally skipped my morning nap, but made up for it while Grandma, A/C, and I went for a walk to Paper Doll. Our second stop was Milk & Honey, where I played with straws and even whacked A/C in the face with one.  There were two other babies there at M&H and it was really fun to smile at them and practice my wave.

I had another failed nap in the afternoon before saying goodbye to Grandma Droste, who went back home for a few days.  A/C let me spend a bunch of time in the afternoon and evening practicing my one-handed walking skills.  I’ll be standing in no time!

Pants: the perfect distraction.

1/7: “Can You Come Without the Sirens?”

I’m starting to like my pack ‘n’ play!

Well, the night was anything but normal.  At 2:00 am a crazy beeping sound goes off in our house.  I sleep through it, though, because I’m such a good sleeper.  Mom and Aunt Claire creep around the house on their tippy toes looking for the feared intruder and end up finding…each other.  Boo!

Mom discovers that it’s our carbon monoxide alarm and freaks out.  She calls the fire department and gets voice mail (!); her next call is 9-1-1 (!!).  The emergency team decides that they’re coming to our house.  Mom asks “can you come without the sirens?”  No way.  So, though I didn’t wake up the alarm, the flashing lights and blaring sirens did the trick — I was up.  Shockingly, there was no emergency and they left.  I pretended to have no interest in going to sleep, which meant that I got to sleep in bed with Mom.  Works every time!

I started eating beef today.  I think that gives me most of the common meats except for pork.  I played in my room with Grandma Droste so that A/C could “sleep in” until 7:30.  I spit up twice in the morning which is pretty unusual for me.  Then I took my morning nap.  Grandma Droste mixed my ground beef with the broccoli risotto and made little meat balls that I could eat with my fingers.

Throughout the afternoon I drank a lot of Grandma’s water and really for the first time started playing in my pack ‘n’ play.  I guess that’s what my new found mobility gets me!

Hey, who chose this picture for the blog?!?

1/6: Just an Ordinary Day

I’ll find that sock…eventually!

Today was a pretty uneventful day.  I really enjoyed watching it snow and am really looking forward to being able to go out and play in it!  I failed — twice — to nap this morning so Grandma finally gave in and slept with me in Mom’s and Dad’s bed.

I listened to lots of music today (and really love watching my Best of 2008 slide show!).  I took a good nap in the afternoon and played with Grandma & Aunt Claire.

Hey, it’s closet time

1/5: It’s So Crazy Right Now!

Dancing with Dad to Beyonce (Crazy in Love!)

I woke up this morning at 6:30, just in time to catch Mom on her way out the door.  I ended up screaming like crazy and made Mom feel really guilty as she headed to work.  It took Dad a few minutes to get me calmed down and then I hung out with him while he took a shower and got dressed to go his annual physical.  Dad got me changed and dressed me in “monochrome” — which drew the ire of Aunt Claire, my fashion advisor.

As usual, Dad made me crawl across the family room to earn my morning bottle.  Then Aunt Claire and Grandma Droste took over when Dad left.  I played all morning and then headed up to my room to help pick out the new blinds that are being installed to help keep my room insulated (it gets sooooo cold at night!).

I took a little nap while the blinds guy was taking measurements.  After I got up, Aunt Claire got me hooked a new song: You Make My Dreams.  It was a day with lots of dancing…Beyonce with Dad and numerous renditions of Ordinary Day on our best-of video.

A/C’s friends Charlie and Julie came by and hung out as it her friend Maddi (again!).  Then I took a really long nap.  The key to sleeping success?  I fell asleep in Grandma Droste’s arms!  Dad came up to visit me a bunch throughout the day and must have given me 200 kisses!  When Mom got home I was so excited to see her!  She let me use her hands to walk around (no one else lets me do that anymore!).  I got to eat cauliflower (that Mom & Dad were eating that had salt!) right out of the oven and then Dad made me crawl across the family room to get my evening bottle.

And Dad thinks I can’t feed myself!

1/4: 99.6 isn’t Technically a Fever

Cheesehead.

THE 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW SLIDE SHOW IS NOW AVAILABLE! (click here)
(Make sure your sound is on!)

Whew. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

I had a pretty rough night and Mom kept having to come in and look after me.  I finally got up for the day around 7:00 and Dad got me out of my crib and again made me crawl across the living room to earn my bottle!  We played together until everyone else got up, but I definitely wasn’t myself. I haven’t been this fussy in a really long time.

Finally Mom went to check out a new church and Dad got me to poop and then to take a nap, albeit a very brief one.  I got feeling a bit better, but as soon as Mom got home, she thought I was warm, so Mom and Dad (yes, it required both of them) took my temperature.  I was 99.6 degrees — warm, but definitely not a fever.  I got some tylenol and went back downstairs to play.

Oh, here’s my latest photo album, covering from my 9th month birthday through the end of the year.  From now on we’ll just go with calendar months:

For lunch I got to try a new dish: edamame & yogurt.  It was pretty good and went down easy.  I also got to try a new finger food: cheese.  Despite what the picture suggests, some it actually ended up in my mouth.

I took another short nap and then Mom, Grandma Droste, and Aunt Claire went to see a movie.  Grandpa Yagan came over to hang out with me and Dad. I finally got back to being my old self around 4:00.  I was in a great mood, laughing, crawling, and playing until I finally turned in (after a bath, for a record third day in a row!) around 7:00.

I get my beauty tips from Aunt Claire…

1/3: A Great Day for Two Outings

Dad makes me work for my bottles!

I got up a little after 7:00 and Dad brought me downstairs for my bottle.  Usually Dad and I get some quality one-on-one time on the weekend mornings, but today everyone in the house got up as soon as we started making any noise.  Mom, Grandma Droste, and Aunt Claire were all awake by the time I finished my bottle.

Dad and I went our usual Saturday grocery run (accompanied by Aunt Claire).  We stopped by Whole Foods (for my food) and Dominick’s (for everyone else’s).  Dad and A/C stopped by the Starbucks inside the Dominick’s (I think they’re both addicted!) for a little energy boost.  As usual, I made a lot of friends going through the store.  The cashier was especially impressed by my waving skills.

It was a nice day, so Mom, Aunt Claire, and I went for a walk around the hood.  We stopped at Aveda, the Shell station (to turn in a lottery ticket?!), Bank of America, Beadnicks, and then The Goddess & The Grocer.

After we ate lunch, I took a nap with Mom in her bed (one of my favorite things in the whole world!).  My afternoon was pretty uneventful — just hanging out with the fam.  I got tired a bit earlier than usual, so Mom started my bedtime routine about ten minutes early.  Even though today wasn’t supposed to be a bath day, I had so much food stuck to me that Mom gave me one anyway.

Practicing my wave…

1/2: Getting the New Year Started Right

Dad’s a roller coaster!

I got up early (relative to the last week) today — 6:45.  I found myself in Mom’s and Dad’s bed because I had cried in the middle of the night and Dad was too lazy to actually do what he’s supposed to.  Interestingly, Mom had already left for work.  I wonder how my my new sleep schedule will change my and Mom’s morning schedule.  For my morning bottle, Dad put me down in one corner of the living room and put the bottle in the other corner and made me crawl all the way over in order to get my breakfast!

I got to spend the day with Aunt Claire.  Dad made plenty of stops to see me, of course.  Around 10:00 A/C and I went to — shockingly — Starbucks.  We hung out there while A/C drank most of her beverage and then we brought Dad back his new favorite beverage: salted caramel signature hot chocolate.

The rest of the day went really well.  I don’t think I cried except for when A/C tried to make me take a nap in the morning and when Mom got home and refused to give me her hands to walk around with.  I had fun with Mom, but sure wish I got to see her more!

I’ve perfected my wave…

1/1: Happy New Year!

Mom & Dad are so excited to see me!

I got up today at the new usual: 7:15.  I had my morning bottle and then Maddi, A/C, and I walked to Starbucks (that’ 3 times in 4 days!).  A/C brought some food along, so I was able to enjoy some cereal while they had their coffees.

I took a half-hour nap and then hung out with Maddi while A/C did laundry & garbage.  Finally, Mom and Dad came home with Grandpa Yagan.  I was very happy to see all three of them, but I was especially excited to see Mom who I screamed the loudest for and refused to let go of.

I was so tired and cranky; Dad managed to get me to take a 45 minute nap. I got up and played with Mom and Dad downstairs, before eating dinner and then crawling around for  a while before getting my second bottle and going to bed.

I’m so close to reaching it!

12/31: Rockin’ New Year’s Eve!

Can’t stop a cruising Maggie.

I had a bit of a rough night last night.  Or I should say, Aunt Claire had a bit of a rough night because in the middle of the night I decided that I wanted to get up a play for an hour.  What’s wrong with that?  Well, A/C tried every trick in the book, but eventually just decided to play for a while!

I guess it’s not getting up “late” anymore when it’s 5 days in row, but I got up at 7:45 again today.  I think Aunt Claire hasn’t minded my new schedule.  It was too late to go out for a walk, so Aunt Claire and I focused on having fun downstairs.

Today was my third day trying the roasted red pepper with goat cheese and I finally liked it a bit today.  I helped ring in the new year by talking to A/C’s friends in Bodh Gaya on Skype.  I can’t wait to go to India myself.

In the afternoon I met (for the second time), A/C’s friend Maddi (sounds confusingly similar to Maggie!).  I was really happy to see her and she’s so fun to play with.  As usual, I had to show off all my new little tricks — she seemed impressed!

The three of us went to Dominick’s, where I played with a sticker and got quite a bit of attention from various people we met.  We then went to Zen Noodles where A/C and Maddie picked up dinner.

I was pretty tired, so my bottle/bath/bedtime routine started a bit earlier than usual and I was fast asleep by 7:15.

Happy New Year!

My favorite new toys!

12/30: Fussy!

So much to ponder…

Yet again I woke up after 7:00 am today.  Charlie was here when I got up.  We played some basketball and then A/C and I took a walk to Kinko’s.  The post office was again way too crazy for us so, not too disappointingly, we ended up at Starbucks again.  It was too cold to stop again so we made a beeline for home.

I took a couple naps today, but I was in a really bad mood in the afternoon.  In fact, it was so bad that Aunt Claire decided to take me for a walk through the neighborhood to try to calm me down.  It worked, but by the time I got back I was upset again.  I went to sleep pretty easily.

Perfect form for a left-handed layup!
