3/9: My Last Monday as an Infant

Choo-Choo w/Nana!

I got up with Mom in the morning  and was in a great mood.  I had a couple of my favorites for breakfast: a hard-boiled egg and strawberry oatmeal.  I even drank a 4 ounce bottle, too.  Nana and I went downstairs after my nap and played on the carpet, which I really like.  I even got to eat lunch there because the dining room was being cleaned.  I had a very dairy-intensive lunch: a cup of milk, cheese sauce, and yogurt.

Then we went for a walk.  It was sunny but much colder than it looked.  I pretty much rejected  my afternoon bottle, but loved the fruit and cereal I got instead.  I like this whole assertive thing.

3/8: Yeah, I Eat Peas Off the Floor. So?

Where’s Maggie’s head?

The morning was relatively uneventful — except that it was raining really, really hard, again.  What a wet weekend!  After my morning nap, Mom, Dad, and I got our stuff together and hopped in the car heading toward….chinatown!  It turns out we (even me) were invited to Dad’s friend Chris’s birthday party.  He’s turning 32.  32!  That’s sooooooooo old!

We had dim sum at Phoenix.  It looked really good, but I just ate my regular food.   I don’t think I’ve ever even had Chinese food!  I’ve had Thai and Indian, but not Chinese.  It was pretty fun.  Too bad Mom and Dad didn’t bring my shoes, because I really wanted to walk around a bunch with the other kids at the other tables.  I got fussy toward the end, but otherwise I think I did pretty well!

We went straight from Phoenix to Target, where I got a couple new shirts and a whole bunch of diapers.

The rest of the day was full of a lot of hanging out, with some napping and eating all mixed in together.  I did have some fun playing with peas (check out my snazzy outfit!):

3/7: Playdate with Conor!

Eskimo Kiss!!!!!!!

This morning I got up with Dad and after a quick bottle, we made a beeline for Dominick’s.  We were one of the few people in the store at 6:30 am!  The nice woman at the deli gave me a slice of cheese again, just like she did last week.  The deli is now my favorite part of the store!

After we finished up, we  stopped at the Red Hen Bakery again — which meant that we were going to have friends over brunch.  See, I figure things out pretty quickly!

We got home just in time for breakfast.  While I was eating, Mom came downstairs and took over feeding me while Dad started to work on making brunch.  We all played downstairs and then at 9:00, Dad took me up to my room and put me down for my nap.

When I got up Mom changed my clothes and brought me downstairs to play.  Around 11:15, our visitors arrived — I was so happy to see that my Mom’s and Dad’s friends Greg and Emily brought their son and my friend Conor!  I hadn’t seen Conor since last summer and we’ve both grown so much.  I’m jealous that he can walk!  Here are a few videos of us!

I was so sad when Conor had to leave! I had so much fun and I can’t wait to see him again. I hung out with Mom & Dad and then Mom left for a while and I hung out with Dad until my nap time. I got up and was glad to see Mom back, but then Dad left for a while, too. Finally we were all back together again and played until bedtime. Here’s proof:

See? Fun!

The jumperoo is getting boring…

3/6: Spring, Are You Tricking Me Again?

Yay, spring!

I got up Friday morning just in time to say bye-bye (literally!) to Mom before she left for work.  I hung out in the bathroom while Dad took a shower…and discovered the roll of toilet paper!  I unrolled almost the whole thing and ate at least a square inch or two before Dad could get out of the shower and stop me!

Dad got up with me and fed me breakfast before Nana came over.  Dad took an hour off of work to go an open house at a pre-school that I might attend: Near North Montessori! Apparently it’s really hard to get in — there are only 3 spots open in the toddler community and seven spots open in the infant community.

I had a really fun time with Nana.  We read and then I took a good nap from 9:15 to 11:00.  After lunch (broccoli risotto!), Nana and I went out for a walk in the beautiful sun!  It was so nice and there were so many kids and dogs out.  We were out for well over an hour and we had a really fun time.

After I got up from my nap, I spent some time down in the office with Dad until Mom came home.  For some reason, bath time became a photo (and video!) shoot:

Luckily, I have a big belly!

3/5: Exploring Dr. Liu’s Office

Is that a bruise on my forehead?

Mom got me out of my crib this morning and I hung out with her while she got ready for work. I was in a great mood when came over. We played and read and had a great time! Around 11:00, I was so surprised when Dad got home! Apparently he would have gotten home last night and gotten up with me this morning if he hadn’t been on some TV show. Whatever!

I ate a little earlier than usual and then Dad, Nana, and I hopped in the car and took off for Northwestern, to go to a doctor’s appointment with Grandpa. I visited him in his recovery room six weeks ago and now I got to go with him to his first checkup. I behaved really well when the doctor was in the room — mostly because Dad stuffed me with cheerios to keep me distracted.

When Grandpa’s appointment ended, I crawled right out of the room and all over the office. Luckily people didn’t mind the distraction and kept telling me how cute I am! Wow, if I’m cute I just get to break all the rules? I like this!

We got back home and Dad went down into the office to work. Nana and I played together until my nap time, which was uneventful. Mom got home while I was eating dinner and I played with her until bed time.

Hey, these chairs used to be closer together!

3/4: Mango!

Thought-provoking nibbles…

Today was a run of the mill wonderful day. Not too much to report, other than I got to ea mango today. I also had a rare leaky diaper during my morning nap. Nana and I also ventured out into Wicker Park for an hour, but it was much colder than I remember it being last week. What happened!?!?

Spring, where did you go?

3/3: Square Day

:)

Today is the first square day of my life 3/3/9.  Dad is determined to make a math nerd out of me that he’s already looking ahead to 4/4/16 — can you believe I’ll be 8?  I might even know what a perfect square is…if Dad gets his way.

I’ve decided that one of my favorite foods is a hard-boiled egg.  Perfect consistency for finger-fooding, easy to chew, and flavorful.  I’m also really getting into a great schedule.  My 9:00 nap happens really consistently and even if I don’t fall asleep right away, I usually keep myself entertained until I finally doze off.

On the other hand, I hate “confetti slaw” — it is so disgusting!  It’s made of zucchini, apples, red pepper, and balsamic vinegar.  I used to tolerate it, but tonight when Mom tried to feed it to me, I spit it out and then picked the regurgitant and threw it on the floor.  Take that, Mom!

Who isn’t wearing blocks on their heads these days?

3/2: Hello Brainy Baby, Time to Play!

What is that?

It was really cold today! Since I couldn’t go outside, I spent a bunch of time looking out the window watching for people, dogs, and cars to go by. Luckily, we live on a busy street, so there was plenty to look at. Nana and I read the entire “Brainy Baby” series today and I took a 2.5 hour nap in the morning.

F is for fish!

3/1: A Heady Day

That’s a lot of snow!

I got up a bit before 6:00 today and talked to myself for about half an hour or so until Dad came in to get me around 6:15.  We had a pretty fun time playing and I was a bit surprised when Dad got breakfast started at 7:00 instead of 7:30, like usual.

Unfortunately I wasn’t as quite as I could have been (especially as I was rejecting the polenta!) and Mom got up around 7:15.  I figured out that the reason I had an early breakfast was because Dad and I were going to the store (again, even though we already went yesterday!).  So, we headed out to Dominick’s, in the snow!  Mom thought I should have been wearing a hat, but Dad said my hood was enough.

The snow was so pretty in the Dominick’s parking lot that we stood in the snow and waved to the flakes as they fell on us!  We only needed a few things from the store today so it went really quickly.  I was very popular with the staff again today — even though I almost shoplifted a pack of paper bowls!

On our way home the snow started coming down even harder.  We stopped at the gas station to fill up the car for Mom and then made a surprise store at a bakery I had never been to before (neither had Dad!): Red Hen Bread.

Oh, here’s a video from yesterday that didn’t make it into yesterday’s post:

We got home in time to get some good play time in with Mom before my nap.  When I woke up Mom was straightening up the house and Dad was in the kitchen, so I figured something might be up.  While Mom was up in my room getting me clothes that actually matched (Dad!) I had my first of three head injuries of the day.  I lost my balance while standing up and fell face first into the couch — and got some kind of whiplash — before bouncing off the couch, and hitting the back of my head against the hardwood floor (I just barely missed my foam mat!).  I screamed like crazy and Dad even said “Oh God!”  Mom came running down the stairs and they both tried to distract me.

Finally, at 11:00, I figured out why today’s schedule seemed to strange: our friends Kurt and Charu came over for brunch!  We usually meet friends at Moonshine for brunch, but today they came over which meant we would get to play and not just eat.

Dad was taking a while to get the food ready, so I got a head start.  Charu and Kurt thought it was funny that I turned everything into finger food — even broccoli risotto!  Finally we all sat down to eat. Charu and Kurt also thought it was funny to say “where’s your head?” and get me to touch my head with hands full of food!

Charu was especially fun to play with.  She was scooting all over the floor with me!   I got my second and third head injuries of the day while they were here. While Mom was still sitting at the table, I decided to start running while holding her hand.   Apparently she wasn’t holding on to me, and when I let go of her, I pretty much ran straight into the floor!  More crying, more distracting.   A bit later on, I was trying to climb up to sit on Mom’s lap and I slipped and banged my head on her chair.  So, not only was my head full of the food I was eating, I also had three injuries by the time they left!

But, there was a particular bring spot — also involving my head.  While Charu was talking to me about my head, I actually looked at her and said “head!”  Charu and Dad immediately looked at each other in disbelief!  Charu was so proud that she got me to say a brand new word — and expand my vocabulary by 25%!

After Charu and Kurt left, I went down to the office to play with Dad while Mom got some work done.  It was so cold down there — luckily I had a fleece vest on to keep me warm.  I almost pulled two speakers on my head, but I dodged them (or, more accurately, they dodged me).  We headed back upstairs where I rejected my bottle, ate half an avocado for my afternoon snack, and then took a short nap.  (Too bad it was such a short nap, as Mom and Dad took their own nap while I was sleeping!)

I woke up and had a pretty uneventful evening, except for dinner.  I threw a huge fit at dinner and rejected pretty much everything Mom and Dad tried to feed me.  In particular, I refused to eat either the chicken (with butternut squash), the polenta (leftover from breakfast?  Come on!), or the asparagus.  I was happy to eat the tropical smoothie, fresh strawberries, and of course, my favorite: peas.  I even drank some prune juice.  I could tell Mom and (especially) Dad were getting pretty frustrated.  On the other hand, it was pretty cool that I got to eat an adult food (asparagus frittata) because I had already had every single ingredient in it!

I rejected my evening bottle all together and then finally went to sleep around 7:30.

Getting ready for Kurt & Charu to visit!

2/28: Milk, Finally!

No milk mustache here…

I got up with Dad this morning, and as soon as I had breakfast, we took off for the grocery store.  Unfortunately, we were too loud and Mom woke up before we could sneak out the door.

We had an especially fun trip to Dominick’s — I was in a very gregarious mood and so many people stopped to talk to me!  The woman at the deli counter was even nice enough to give me a free slice of cheese.  Yum!

After we finished — we had an especially short list this week, for some reason — we headed back home.  The three of us spent a lot of time playing together.  Here’s some proof:

I took a good nap in the morning and then at lunch had cow’s milk for the first time ever!  (Well, Dad snuck me a few tablespoons last month, but that’s top secret.)  Of course, I’ve also had cheese and yogurt, but never before gotten to drink it right out of the cup.  Despite the games I played knocking the cup over, I really like the milk and I drank all four ounces.

The afternoon featured yet another first, as Mom and Dad left me alone with Rachel — my first time alone with babysitter!    I sat down for my afternoon snack just as Mom and Dad left, so I was too distracted by my blueberry parfait to notice that they were leaving.  Then it was time for my bottle and then my nap!  Rachel seemed said that I’d be asleep for a bit part of her time with me!  I got up after an hour and greeted Rachel with a huge poop to change!  After I was clean I was ready to play and we had a really fun time together.  Mom & Dad got back around 5:30 and I played with them until dinner.  After dinner we went down to the office to play until Mom gave me my bath and I went to sleep!

Eskimo kiss!
