6/27: Unc!

Kisses from Unc

I woke up this morning with Dad, as usual for a Saturday.  We took a really early trip to the grocery store and saw the usual crew of people who are always so nice to us!  We didn’t seem to buy as much as usual, but we still played the sticker game in the  produce section, where I stick a sticker on Dad’s nose…and he can never find it so I have to find it for him!  He definitely gets funny looks when he walks around the store with a sticker on his nose!

Oh, here’s my photo album from May:

We got back and I had breakfast and then took a nap.  When I got up, Uncle Danny was here!  He seems to have made it his mission to get me to call him “Unc” (conveniently similar to my favorite word, “uck”).  We played and had fun until it was time for lunch with Nana and Grandpa.  We went to Portillo’s and had a really good meal.    It was crazy-busy, but it was one of the first times that I was allowed to order off the real menu instead of bringing my own food!  I got the kids pasta with a really big meatball in the middle!  It was sooooo good.

After lunch we came back home and hung out (Unc stayed at Nana’s and Grandpa’s).  I  took a nap and then we hopped in the car and went to…Nana’s and Grandpa’s!  We had a really fun time and I romped all around their home.  It was really fun to have all the Yagan side of the family together!

We would have stayed longer, but it was my bed time, so we talk off right at 7:00 (with Unc).

6/25-6/26: Back to School!!

That’s Mama!

I woke up at 5:25 this morning and for the first time in three weeks, I went to pre-school!  I drove to school with Mom and we sang a bunch of  songs, including “The Wheels on The Bus.”  I was really fussy when Mom left.

I had a rough morning at school.  I  insisted on being held most of the morning, so the teachers took me out of the classroom and let me take a special nap in the office.  I felt a lot better when I woke up and went back and joined my friends.  For lunch I had (I think!) my first hamburger ever!    I also really enjoyed playing with bubbles, which I was doing when Mom came to get me.

On the ride home, I kept saying “out” because, well, I wanted to get out!  Mom taught me that I can get out when we get “home.”  So,  whenever I said “out” she would say “when can we get out” and I would say “home.”  This was one of my first “conversations” ever!  I’m really enjoying my rides with Mom, and I think the more I learn to talk, the more fun it will be!

I had a bit of a rough dinner (but I hugged my bread!) and wasn’t too friendly to Dad when he got home.

Friday morning I got up at 6:00 with Dad.  I was really, really fussy.  I kept wanting him to pick me “up” but he refused to pick me up if I was crying.  If  I asked nicely, he picked me up.  Hmm.

Nana came at 8:00 and we had a really good morning.  The roof guys were here again, but they didn’t stay long and  they were much quieter this time.  We got spend a lot more time outside and finally after my afternoon nap I got to play with Dad until Mom got home.

Dad tried to give me my bath today, but I was just as resistant.  He just let me cry while he washed me.  I went to bed pretty quickly.

6/24: Happy Birthday Aunt Sarah!

Couch Potato Head

Happy Birthday Aunt Sarah!!

The big excitement today was that we were having work done on our roof, so there were guys in and out all day.  And man, they were loud!  I got up at 4:45 and hung out with Mom until Nana got here.  When Mom left I was a bit clingy, so  Nana came up with the idea of going outside and visiting the fire hydrant (just like the one Elmo has!).   Not only do I really like my fire hydrant, but also I get to wave bye-bye to Mom one last time when she drives by us!

My morning was pretty  normal, except that I had to sleep in the family room because of all the banging on the roof.  In fact, in the afternoon, I could only sleep for about an hour because of all the noise.

I had 4 poops today, which was strange.  I bet my teachers at pre-school hope I get that under control before tomorrow!  Mom was home early today and took  over around 5:00.  I ate a pretty good dinner, but was somewhat tired when I finished.  Again, I resisted my bath and ended up staying up until 8:00 as Mom hoped that the roofers would be done.  They hadn’t left by 8:00, but I was so tired that I went to sleep despite the noise.

Last year, I had fallen quite behind on my blog!

6/23: Another Day Home from School

I love this book!

It was a game-time decision whether I’d go to  pre-school today, but ultimately Mom decided to keep me home and Nana was nice enough to cancel her plans to stay home with me again.  I had a great morning, despite a little runny nose that’s still lingering.

I had a good snack, took a long (2-hour) nap, and woke up in a great mood.  I ate a ton (practically licking clean the bowl of Nana’s Zucchini).  I was feeling so good after lunch that I even danced — something I haven’t done in quite a few days.  I devoured a huge snack (making up for the food I didn’t feel like eating for the last week or two) before my nap.

I had a good dinner with Mom and went to bed (no bath, thankfully!).

Last year I hung out with Dr. Nick.

Yum, berries!

6/22: A Rough Morning & Smooth Afternoon

Nana hasn’t made me a bed in months!

Today started out a  bit rough; I was up at 4:30 AM and cried quite a bit.  I didn’t have a fever, but Mom had to get up and console me until I fell back asleep at 5:10.  I got up again before Mom left and sure enough, Nana was here to hang out with me, as usual.

I ate a really good breakfast, but was much fussier than usual, with a runny nose and a pretty deep cough.  Nana tried to put me down for a nap at  9, but I wouldn’t fall asleep for an hour despite Nana trying every trick in the book (finally she put me in my stroller, where I fell asleep when she walked me around!).  She took me out and put me on the little bed she made for me, just like she used to back in the fall.  Luckily  when I slept, I slept well — for almost two hours.

My afternoon was much better — I think I’m beating this thing now.  I had a really good lunch and slept much more peacefully from 3:45-5:00.  Mom got home and I ate a great dinner, including my new favorite: salmon.

Despite my protests, Mom insisted on giving me a bath.  I pooped on my way out, so I think I won in the end.

Remember when I used to wear onesies?

One of those days…

6/21: Happy Father’s Day!

My turn to do the feeding!

Happy Father’s Day to Dad, Grandpa Droste, Grandpa  Yagan, and Great-grandpa Harris !  Just like last Father’s Day, Mom got up with me so Dad could sleep in. Mom and I cooked breakfast for Dad — he loves pancakes!  When he finally got up we had breakfast together.   Not only did I get to eat the pancakes but Dad even let me feed him!

Mom & Dad & I had a fun morning together and then after my nap we headed over to Nana’s and Grandpa’s to celebrate Father’s Day again.  I really, really love Indian food!  I had really like the Dal that Dad made me a few months ago, but it was even better to eat adult Indian food.  We had a great time together and played until it was time for us to go home so I could take my nap.

The big news in the evening was that Mom gave me my first haircut ever today — just the part in front of my eyes.  I’m sure the longest piece she cut wasn’t even an inch long, but it was a big deal!

A year ago I was back in the Chi!

Nice cheek, Grandpa!

6/20: Out and About!

Before: notice how long my bangs are.

Well, today was almost back to a normal Saturday.  Dad had promised Mom that he wouldn’t take me to the store early in the morning, but ultimately he convinced her after I was feeling even better after breakfast.  We shot a lot of video today, so there’s no need to write too much.

Last year was my last day in NYC…and I haven’t been back to visit!

6/19: On the Comeback Trail

Hair-raising eggshell.

I definitely felt like I made progress today.  I still have a runny nose and an occassional cough, but I didn’t have a fever and I was in a pretty good mood all day.  Dad got up with me in the morning until Nana took over right after breakfast.  I ate a huge lunch after my nap and had a good time with Nana all afternoon.

I got up from my nap to see Mom (I had forgotten it was Friday!).  We went for a walk and then Dad took over when he was done working (and Mom took a well-deserved nap).

Last year I was getting shot up!

6/18: Tonsillitis – Hooray!!!

Bye-bye, doc!

I woke up doing really poorly.  My temperature was 103.4 and I was so lethargic.  All I wanted to do was lay on  Mom’s shoulder.  I barely moved.  Dad got a big bucket of ice-water and put freezing cold washcloths all over my body (two on my head and others on my neck, arms, legs, and back).  The Motrin at 7:00 am helped, but I was still totally out of it.  I had a doctor’s appointment at 10:45.  Mom, Dad, and Nana all went with me and I could tell they were very concerned.

I didn’t have to wait at all when I got in and I saw Dr. Kazdin again.  She took another flu test (came back negative) and checked out my ears (looking much better).  Nana was asking a lot of questions and Dr. Kazdin and given how she answered the questions, she clearly didn’t realize that Nana was a pediatrician.  Anyway toward the end of the examination, she looked in my throat and sure enough: puss!

YAY!!!  Mom, Dad, and especially Nana were so happy to here the news: tonsillitis!  Now, ordinarily kids  don’t celebrate  tonsillitis, but in this case, the cause of the fever had been identified.  Turns out I just got very unlucky, getting an ear infection, beating it, then getting tonsillitis the day after.  So,  rather than having something scary that caused a 12-day fever, I had two little  things back-to-back.

We haven’t shot any video in a while, so even though this isn’t great, I thought you’d like to see me:

The rest of the day was so much more relaxed.  Nana stayed until 3:00 and basically I sat in her lap and read until my nap.   Don’t forget that Mom’s still feeling terrible at this point, so Dad was on duty and Mom got some much deserved rest (except that her caugh made that really difficult.

A year ago I turned 100.

Half-hearted.

6/16 & 6/17: Take II

Pathetic!

Well, I was supposed to be all better today.  I would have even gone back to pre-school today, but Nana insisted that I stay home (and that she’d take care of me).  Well, the morning was great.  I was happy to see that Mom was working from home, but that was just because she wasn’t feeling well, so that was bad.

Everything changed after lunch.  My fever came back and Mom and Nana were very concerned and confused — I was supposed to be over the worst of my ear infection.  Nana refused to go home tonight and instead slept on the floor in my room.  She figured leaving two sick people alone wasn’t a good idea.  It was so nice of her to stay!

By the morning on Wednesday, I hadn’t improved at all.  Mom called my doctor’s office even before it opened and got me an appointment at 11:45 with Dr. Freeman (my usual doctor).  She agreed that something was definitely wrong, but confirmed that all of my tests from the emergency room on Friday were normal (for a sick person).  My ears were getting better and so it was mystery what was causing my fever.  She sent us back to Children’s Memorial Hospital for more tests.

At Children’s, the doctors repeated all of the tests from Friday (chest x-ray, blood and urine analysis) and sent us home. The docs were still confused, so they consulted with an infectious diseases specialist to see if I might have something exotic wrong with me.  They decided that they wanted to see me tomorrow to repeat the flu test.

Nana left at 3:00 and Dad was on his way home.  Mom and I went for a walk to pick up more coconut water, because it’s about the only liquid I would drink.  At dinner I had pretty bad chills — my lips, feet, and hands felt like ice cubes!  I was really struggling.  Dad got home  and Mom and I definitely felt better to have the whole family back together.

So, I went to bed feeling terrible and with some undiagnosed illness.  Hopefully the trip to the doctor’s office tomorrow will figure out what’s wrong with me!

Last year Mom left me with a stranger!!

Indoor picnic.
