10/15: Happy Birthday, Mom!

Kick soccer ball.

I woke up with Mom and Dad this morning and we started celebrating Mom’s 2^5th birthday!   We had a good ride in to school and I had a great day.  I loved doing puzzles and building big block towers.  I also enjoyed picking out books from the library and reading them with my teachers.

When we got home, I practiced some soccer and we continued celebrating Mom’s birthday:

Last year, I fell in love with pears.

10/12-14: My First Shopping Spree!

Batter, you’re mine.

I woke up Monday morning and was so excited to see Aunt Claire!  After breakfast, Aunt Claire and I dropped Jake off at the train station and then we played together until Nana came at 10:30.  I was in a good mood and at 11:30 I asked Nana for food, so she knew it was lunch time.  I ate Nana’s zucchini, drank some milk, and had a few grapes for lunch.  I slept from 1-3 and woke up in a great mood.

I had a good evening with Mom, actually eating my fish, my Oochey Burger ™ and some veggies.  I had a huge poop that leaked on to my pants before singing and reading books with Mom.

The leaking continued on Tuesday morning.  Mom got me up and found me in a puddle of wet pajamas and sheets.  Despite that, I was in a great mood and we headed to school, all the way discussing the sharks, turtles, and ducks that we’d seen at the aquarium. I had a great day at school.  I was super-energetic and social, especially with my friends Emma and Lexi.   When Mom and I got home, we ate fish, a pea burger, root veggies, and an apple.  It was a bath night, and I even got to “help” clip my own nails.  By the time we got done reading my books, it was 8:20 — a late night!

On Wednesday morning Dad got me out of bed, which I dont think has ever happened before!  He took the day off to get a lot of things done for the family.  I hung out with Dad until Nana got here nad then I played with her all morning until 11, when I was exhausted and fell asleep.  By the way, I know so many Arabic words now!

When I got up from my nap, Dad and Nana packed me up into the car and took me on a shopping spree!  We went to a few stores and bought a few things for my fall wardrobe.  We went to three stores looking for a winter coat, but we didn’t find anything we liked.  Thanks Nana and Grandpapa!!

I was excited when Mom got home and all three of us had dinner together before bedtime.

Last year I had dinner troubles!

10/11: Soccer Practice!

It started well…

I’m 19 months old today!  Mom got up with me this morning, which is pretty rare for a Sunday morning.  Dad was confused, so he got up right away, too.  All three of us hung out in Mom’s and Dad’s room and played on their bed.  I had breakfast a little later than usual, but that didn’t keep me from cooking an egg with Dad.  I pretty much rejected my cream of wheat, though.

Just before 9:00, Mom, Dad, and I left to head to soccer practice.  We took the long way so that we could check out the doors on our neighbors’ houses do decide what color to paint ours.  It was REALLY cold today!  I learned that my sweatshirt has pockets and the warmth said pockets can provide.  Eventually we got to soccer practice, which was held indoors today due to the freezing cold.

Well, it started well, but in general, this first practice was tough.  The videos tell the story:

Then we went to the park and hung out in the cold:

When it was time to go, Dad carried me home.  We ate lunch — I refused the Oochey Pancake and liked the Swamp Soup (but ended up wearing most of it).  Mom tried to put me to bed after lunch, but I refused that, too, and finally Aunt Claire rescued me half an hour later.  I played downstairs with everyone for a couple hours.  For my snack, I ate THREE tubs of yogurt!  Then Dad and I read a couple books and I went to sleep until about 6.  We had our traditional fish dinner, but I couldn’t help cook it, because I was napping!

Dad, Aunt Claire, and Jake all left around 6:40.  I hung out with Mom until bath time and went to bed.

Last year I turned seven months old (duh).

Dedication: get the ball at all costs!

10/10: Hi Jake!

Hug Pe-gehn!

I woke up this morning and Dad was much more responsive than he was yesterday.  It probably helped that it was after 7:00 when I called for him.  We hung out in my room for a while and then got dressed and went downstairs.  We cooked an egg (of course) and then went to buy groceries.  Our first stop was Stanley’s, which is becoming a regular part of our weekly outing. It’s totally crazy and not that much fun, but they have lots of cheap fruits and veggies!  Then we went to Whole Foods and then to get an estimate to repair our car.  Mom was very excited when we got home.  Soon after we got in, I got to meet Aunt Claire’s friend, Jake!

I helped Dad cook some food for me and then Mom, Aunt Claire, Jake, and I went shopping.  We met up with Dad for lunch at Mac’s, a local joint that we’ve managed never to go to.  It was fine, but not amazing.  I don’t think we’ll be back.  By the time we got home I was fussy from exhaustion — I’m supposed to nap before 1:30, people!  I slept for a couple hours and then got up and helped Dad cook a bunch of food for me, including root veggie, Oochey Burgers, and Pea Burgers.  I also got to help pack a box to send to my first cousin, once-removed, Nicholas.

Mom and Dad went off to some party and I stayed home with Aunt Claire and Jake.  I refused to eat dinner. Aunt Claire handled it pretty well and got me to eat yogurt before putting me to bed.

A year ago I was only 18 pounds!

Oh Dad, you’re in trouble when I get older.

10/9: Aunt Claire (or is it Sarah?)!

Check out my (many) barrettes!

When I got up this morning, it took much longer than usual for someone to come get me out of bed.  That was my first clue that Dad was home.  When Dad finally got around to getting me, I was so excited to see Aunt Claire join him right away!  We all read a few books and I got dressed for the day (thankfully Aunt Claire kept me from wearing a clashing outfit).  Dad and I showed Aunt Claire how to cook-eh egg-eh and then she had to leave for some meetings.

Nana came around 8 and we had a good morning, even though it was too rainy and cold to go anywhere.  Dad visited us a few times, but I was definitely much fussier than usual.  It turns out I just needed more sleep.  I went to bed at 10:30 and slept until almost 2:00!  I got up in a really great mood and ate a huge lunch (Nana’s zucchini!).  The blinds guy was here putting up some blinds — I’ve known him since I was two months old!

Mom got home around 4 and Nana left.  I played with Mom and Dad down in the office and eventually Aunt Claire joined in the fun.  But I decided that I was going to call her Aunt Sarah all evening.  Ha ha ha!!!  I drove her huts!  I didn’t eat that well and wasn’t interested in the Thai food that they were eating.  Mom insisted on giving me a bath despite Dad’s protests.  I thanked Mom by having a huge poop right in the tub.  I got handed off to Aunt Claire while Mom cleaned up.

Last year I started saying Dada!

Thanks for the socks and bowl, Grandma!

10/7-10/8: Dad’s Taking Me To School?

Thumb puppet

Wednesday was a good day.  Mom had to catch a very early flight, so Rachel was here when I got up in the morning.  I still had a runny nose, but I greeted Nana very enthusiastically and was in  a good mood.  I helped Nana cook my egg (I got to add the “all-pice”).   After breakfast, we headed straight to the park with bread to feed the pigeons.   We were so sad that when we got there, we didn’t see a single bird!  So, we threw some bread to a squirrel.  I even brough some bread of my own to enjoy along side my new friends.

When we got home, I played with the pumpkin, baby pumpkin, and indian corn that Nana brought me.  It was so cool to see pictures of these same things in my books!  I had a huge poop before my 11:00 nap that necessitated a wardrobe change.  I slept for about three hours and woke up in a great mood.  Rachel came around 5:00 and got me fed and to bed!

I woke up on Thursday morning to see Dad, which is quite unusual.  Even more strange was that he was getting me ready to go to school — Dad hasn’t taken me to school since the first two “practice” days I went to before I officially started!  We got ready to go and on our way out in the basement we saw Rachel (who spent the night).  The drive took a little longer than usual because we left a little later.  Dad spent about 20 minutes with me at school and I introduced him to all my new friends.  I said bye and had a really good day at school, including making a caterpillar!  Later in the day I saw Dad through the window and I ran as fast as I could to give him a big hug!  He spent more time with me and my friends.  My best friend, Emma, even sat in his lap — I was jealous so I wiggled my way on to his lap, too.

Finally we left and sat in traffic until we got home.  I didn’t eat great, but I was excited to see Grandpapa!  I love playing Legos with him.  We had a lot of fun until Dad took me upstairs and gave me a bath.  Check us out:

Last year I went bananas!

10/5-10/6: Penny the Penguin!

Culinary bliss.

I woke up on Monday with a cold, but in a good mood. I was happy to see Nana coming and immediately introduced her to my new friend, Penny the Penguin (which Dad brought me from Hawaii!). I gave Penny a huge hug and Nana did too. At 7:00 we started working on breakfast (I love helping cook egg) and I ate really well (even the cream of wheat).

Unfortunately, the roofers came back today so we couldn’t really leave the house, which was a huge disappointment for us! I ate an early snack and went to bed around 10:00. I didn’t love the hamburger Nana made me for lunch (but thanks, Nana!). To make matters worse, I couldn’t really sleep because the roofers were banging on my ceiling!

Rachel came at 5 and Mom came at 6. I didn’t eat that well, even rejecting the fish I cooked last night. Of course, I was happy to eat the grapes.

Tuesday morning was great! I had a blueberry snack before taking off for school. I gave mom a hug and two kisses before she left. At school I really enjoyed painting and washing pumpkins — especially because it meant I got to turn on the water in the sink! When Mom came to pick me up I was in the school’s buggy. I screamed “get out, get out!” We had a good ride home and had a decent dinner. I helped Mom brush her teeth (how’s that for role reversal?) and then went to bed after singing “teapot” and rock a bye baby.

Last year I had a rough night!

Don’t I look old?

10/3-10/4: Fish!

Shoe in hand!

Dad wasn’t home when I woke up on Saturday morning, but Mom had a fun day planned anyway!  We went to the aquarium!  We had so much fun!  Mom forgot our camera, so we had to use a disposable one which we’re still waiting to get developed.  I really had a great time and I even got to dress up as a penguin!Eventually Dad got home and the three of us had a fun time playing together.

On Sunday morning Dad and I went to the grocery store (since we didn’t go on Saturday).  We totally forgot about soccer practice, though, which Dad was really upset about.  We went to the park later in the morning — and learned that my brown shoes aren’t really appropriate for the park.  Mom got back from work and we hung out and played in the house.  Then we took a family trip to the park before coming home and continuing our tradition of cooking a fish dinner on Sunday nights.  I love cooking fish!

Last year, Marty fed me breakfast!

Beautiful tunnel.

10/1-10/2: Welcome Fall!

Fashion statement.

I had a good morning and a great day at school.  My teachers called me a “social butterfly” because I greeted everyone who came in and out of the room.  We had a tough ride home from school because the rain made the usually bad traffic even worse.  I didn’t want to eat and threw my fork, placemat, and food on the floor.  I had a time-out.

Also, I’ve started reading my own books before bed.  That’s pretty cool.

On Friday morning I was in a great mood when Nana arrived.  Of course we started the day off with a scrambled egg (cook-eh egg-eh!) and some cream of wheat.  For a snack, I ate a khouhk (one of the many new Arabic words I’ve added to my vocabularly).  I slept from 10 to 12:30 and just as we were going to go for a walk it started raining!

Mom got home around 2:00 and I helped her clean up the basement.  We walked to the tailor and had to leave Duck there to get bandaged up.  Then we played upstairs and I got to talk to Grandma Droste on the phone.  Dinner was good.  I love pea burgers and I also like these new “treasure triangles” that Dad made me.  Unfortunately I got a time-out for throwing my spoon and fork.  I played with my legos, read books, and then went to bed.

Yummy apples!

Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig bite!

9/30: Eating the Birds’ Waffle

This waffle was supposed to be for the pigeons!

I was in a great mood this morning after my usual breakfast of scrambled eggs.  We went straight to the park, as usual.  We took a waffle to feed the birds, but when we got there, I decided that I wanted to eat the waffle myself!! I got tired earlier than usual and I took an early nap at 10.    After lunch we took off to the park.  While we were out at the park we got a call from my great uncle in Spain, which made the visit even more fun than usual.  I took another nap at 3:15 and then Rachel came around 5:00, which was fun as usual.

Last year Mom was under the weather.

I’ve outgrown the lion!
