11/15: Brrr, It’s Cold in Here!

Thanks Mom, Coach Nicki, and random dad!

Mom was right, today was much colder than yesterday!  I got up with Dad and did our usual playtime in my room followed by breakfast downstairs.  After lunch we read books and played puzzles:

Mom wasn’t feeling well, but still met us at soccer practice just a few minutes after Dad and I got there:

After lunch and my nap Dad and I played (Mom was napping) for a while.  Mom got up and we hung out.  She still wasn’t feeling well, so it was the perfect time to cuddle up and read.  Just as it was getting dark, Dad decided to take me to the park so I could get some time outside and so Mom could get some time to herself.  We played at the park for about half an hour and got really cold!  On our way home (well, not really on our way) we stopped by Starbucks and Dad let me sit up on the counter in front of the window:

We got home and had our usual tradition of salmon dinner which I helped Dad cook.  Since Mom’s sensitive to cauliflower, Dad’s been trying other vegetables.  I liked his roasted green beans today.

Last year we were celebrating Thanksgiving!

Cuddling with Mom and a favorite book.

11/14: The Last Beautiful Day

Got a pint?

I got up with Dad, as usual on Saturdays, and we played in my room for a while, trying to be quiet because “Mommy sleeping.”  After making breakfast, we went on our usual grocery shopping excursion to all three of our stores.  Dad let me eat an entire pint of raspberries, which of course Mom thought was ridiculous.

Mom left to run some errands, so I got extra time to play with Dad, which of course included cooking.  After my nap, we took advantage of the beautiful day — Mom says hte last nice day of the year — by spending a long time at the park:

After dinner, Grand-Papa came over and we had a really fun time playing.  I really like taking his hat off and of course we always play Lego’s.  I went to bed a little bit early because Mom and Dad had to go to Mom’s birthday party (a month late!).

Last year I was in Bourbonnais (and hanging with Uncle Dee-da!)

11/12-11/13: Bye-Bye Nana! I’ll Miss You!

Position of readiness

I was pretty much back to normal on Thursday morning and I was excited to see Dad in the morning.  He helped me get ready for school and Mom drove me as usual.  I especially enjoyed the art session and the science activity.  I also did really well taking turns and being very talkative.  When I got home, I noticed that our front door was painted purple!

I decided to make dinner a bit more of a challenge than usual:

Friday morning I got up with Dad again and we had a good time together making brekfast, eating, and then hanging out:

Nana seemed to be in an especially playful mood when we she got here.  We went on a very long trip to the park (two hours!) and Nana took a lot of pictures.  It probably wasn’t quite cold enough to warrant my snowpants, but I stayed plenty warm.  I ate Nana’s zucchini for lunch and then Nana gave me avery big hug and kiss and put me down for my nap.  (Little did I know that she’d be leaving for Aleppo later tonight!)

When I got up Mom was home and we had a fun afternoon.  Right before dinner, Dad was going to give Nana a ride to the airport, so Mom and I went outside and gave Nana one last big hug and big kiss.  She was so happy to see me!  Mom and I went back inside and had dinner and then went to bed.

Last year I was learning how to scoot backward!

11/9-11: My First Major Throw Up

Snacking & reading

Just after midniht on Monday morning, I threw up in my crib.  It was disgusting: voluminous and chunky.  It was all over myself, my friendly animals, everywhere.  And then I laid my head in it.  Nice.

Mom came to my rescue (Dad picked a good weekend to still be in Vegas!), cleaned me up and cleaned up the big mess I made.  She rocked me back to sleep and then napped on my floor.  I was finally back to sleep at around 2:30.  I was up at 6:30 and, all things considered, was in a pretty good mood.  Mom skipped work and gave me a bath.  I had a low fever and had a light breakfast (O’s & milk, with bread).  I napped early (at 9:30), again with Mom who needed the nap just as much as I did!  I had a cheese sandwich and bananas for lunch with lots of coconut water.

After lunch, Mom had a doctor’s appointment so she dropped me off at Nana’s and Grandpa’s for   a while.  When we got back home I refused to take a nap and hung out with Mom until Rachel came to play with me so Mom could get some work done.  I ate peanut butter, bread, and potatoes for dinner and then went to bed.

Tuesday morning was much better.  I felt good enough to go to school and was my teachers’ unofficial helper all day.  Whenever it was time to pick up toys, I was the first to help.  It was a nice day outside and I enjoyed playing on the climber.  Mom came to get me early (3:30) because she had another doctor’s appointment.  I introducer her to Lexi, Emma, and Joely.  Mom dropped me off at Nana’s and Grandpa’s from 4:40 to 6:20.  When we got home, I refused to eat dinner and I went to bed at 7:30.

Wednesday morning was pretty good.  I slept over 12 hours but was still a bit tired.  My appetite wasn’t great at meal time but I kept wanting to snack.  I’m obviously still not quite over whatever I had that made me sick on Sunday but I’m doing a lot better.  I fell twice today with Nana, once hitting my forehead while I was running and once fell off the black couch.  I napped from 12-2 and when I got up Rachel was here.  I had a fun time playing wither until Mom got home.  I had dinner and then went to sleep.

11/7-8: Girls’ Weekend

Cone drill.

Dad was in Vegas this weekend on his annual trip with his childhood friends, so Mom and I had the house to ourselves all weekend.  I got up really early Saturday morning (5:30!) and wouldn’t go back to sleep in my crib.  Mom made an exception to the rules and let me sleep with her so we could both get some extra sleep.  We finally got up around 7:00.

We went downstairs and cooked an egg (which I don’t get to do too often with Mom!) and atr breakfast.  Then we went to Whole Foods (skipping Dominick’s and Stanley’s!) before meeting my friends Thomas and Keira (and Mom’s friend Heidi) at Welles Park.  We went to the Old Town School of Music to see Laura Doherty in concert.  There was a giant pickle and fun songs.  Thomas and I shared O’s.  Then we all went to lunch at Potbelly’s and I had a PBJ.  Yum!

I refused to nap, crying for 45 minutes when Mom put me down at 1:30.  So, Mom made another exception and let me nap with her.  Things sure are different when Dad’s not around!  We had an uneventful evening, including some laundry, and I went to bed at 7:15.

I slept for over 11 hours and got up at 6:30.  We cooked an egg and did some more laundry.  I was excited to see Coach Nicki at soccer practice, which was outside for the last time this season.  I was pretty good at the running drils, only okay at the kicking drills and I refused to sit on the parachute (but I was willing to run under it):

After practice we played at the park before coming home for lunch. I ate Nana’s green beans and peas adn then took a nap.  When I got up, Rachel was here and we went to the park for two more hours and I even got to bring home leaves!  I helped Mom cook until she sliced her finger.

After dinner, I got to see Grandma and Grandpa Droste on our webcam, which was fun.  I had a bath, read books, and got to sleep very late (8:15).

Last year it was really cold!

Break away!

11/4-6: No H1N1 For Me

Playing with Duck.

I got up with Mom and was happy to see Nana, as usual.  I played well and pooped well; by 10:00 and I was in my crib by 10:30 for a 90-minute nap.  Dad tried to get me an appointment for the H1N1 vaccine at my doctor’s office, but he coudn’t get through.  So Nana took care of the issue by getting me an appointment at the Kankakee County Health Department.  Grandpa, Nana, and I all drove down to Kankakee.  It turned out to be a really fun trip, especially for whomever had the pleasure of sitting next to me in the back seat!

On the way back, we stopped at Dunkin Donuts for my first time ever.  I had a yummy toasted bagel with cream cheese!  We got back home at 3:45 and Rachel came by around 5:00.  I had fun with her, ate dinner, and then she put me to bed.

Thursday morning was fine and I didn’t cry when Mom dropped me off at school.  I gave lots of snuggles and hugs today and said all of my friends’ names.  I even started the trend of waving to my friends during meal time…only no one followed my lead!  Ms. Laurie was really impressed by my verbal skills, too.

I got impatient on the drive home.  I ate a decent dinner but rejected the cantaloups.  I went to sleep at 7:45 wearing fake PJs.

On Friday morning I got up with Dad and we played in my room before going downstairs and making breakfast (egg and outmeal with “apple in it”).  Nana came and we had a great morning together, again speaking lots and lots of Arabic!  I had a very good lunch incluidng salmon, a pea burger, yogurt, and milk.

I took my nap pretty late (around 1:00) and woke up around 3:00 to see Mom home!  I played with Mom most of the afternoon, with visits from Dad.  We even cleaned out my closet and of course I got to help.  I got into a little trouble when I tried to walk up the stairs by myself, but other than that my evening was great.

Yay Lego's!

11/2-3: Nap Inconsistency

 Joey!

I got up with Mom on Monday morning and had a pretty usual day with Nana.  I was in a great mood and enjoyed helping to cook my scrambled egg breakfast.  We read a lot of books and played with almost all of my toys.  My Arabic keeps getting better — I’m hoping to put up a list of all the words I know so you can follow along!

I ate a huge lunch of Nana’s cooking and then took a relatively late nap (1:00 – 2:30).  Rachel came over around 5:00 and I had fun night with her including eating last night’s leftover salmon.  She put me to bed and then I got up with Mom Tuesday morning.

I had a good morning, but cried for the firs time in months when Mom left me at school.  I took a really short nap (35 minutes!) and really enjoyed reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  I couldn’t wait for my turn to push the button on the story cube!

I was very excited to see Mom aroiund 5:10.  The drive home was longer than usual, but we had fun singing and talking to Dad on the phone.  I ate a good dinner and went to sleep around 7:45.

11/1: Soccer Practice & Thanksgiving?

Catch me if you can!

Apparently the clocks got set back overnight, but no one told me I was supposed to sleep in an extra hour, so I was up and ready to go by 6:00 am, when Dad came in to get me up.   We read for a really long time and tried to be quiet because “Mommy sleeping.”  We went downstairs and cooked an egg and made a waffle for breakfast.  Dad and I read some more books:

Then Mom came down and joined us.  I played with her until Unclee Dee-Da came by and then we headed off to soccer practice.  Aside from a short meltdown at the beginning of practice, I did much better than before, including my first willingness to run under the parachute:

After practice, Uncle Dee-Da got my snack ready and then Dad put me to bed for my nap.  When I got up, Mom dressed me up and we went off to Thanksgiving dinner at Nana’s and Grandpa’s.  (I know what you’re thinking: it’s not Thaknsgiving!)  We had a great time together and I enjoyed playing in their new home.  Uncle Dee-Da left for Boston and Mom, Dad, and I headed back home.

We all had a really fun evening together, which included the weekly tradition of cooking fish!  We also played the letter game:

I ate a good dinner including two kiwis for desert.  Mom got me changed and then Dad read me two books before putting me to bed.

Last year I was at Nana’s & Grandpa’s, too!

 Early Thanksgiving!

10/31: My Second Spooky Halloween

Treating at the corner tire store!

I woke up with Dad this morning, but Mom was in my room before I even got dressed.  We all went downstairs together and I cooked an egg and ate oatmeal before going to our three grocery stores with Dad and getting our car back from the shop.

Mom gave me a snack of cheese and then tried to put me down for my nap surprisingly early (a bit after 10:00).  I had no interest in sleeping and after about half an hour Mom gave up and got me up. I was so happy to see Papa and Uncle Dee-da!  We all played together until Grandpa took off and the rest of us ate lunch a little before 12:00.

After lunch I put on my kangaroo costume and off we went to Boo-palooza at Wicker Park!  It was quite cold and I was a bit overwhelmed by the overall chaos.  There were lots of kids in cute costumes and plenty of fun activities, but I wasn’t really in to it.  After we’d been there about half an hour, we decided to go back home and try that nap again.  This time I was totally ready.  Here are some highlights from Boo-palooza:

I got up around 3:00 to see Nana and Grandpa ready to trick-or-treat with me.  We started by visiting a bunch of stores that were welcoming trick-or-treaters.  It wasn’t nearly as fun as the offices I visited at school yesterday.  We tried to trick-or-treat at a bunch of houses, but most people weren’t home and I only ended up with a few pieces of candy.  Finally, we headed back home to host trick-or-treaters.

I had a lot more fun at home.  I was in charge of answering the door and handing out candy to other kids.  In the process, I figured out the best way to trick-or-treat:

Finally it was dinner time, bath time, and then bed time.

Last year I was a dragon!
