12/19-20: I’m a Helper!

Getting out the Christmas presents

Saturday was pretty uneventful.  I got up with Dad, had breakfast, and then went to Dominick’s.  Since we’re heading to Dow later this week, we had a very small list of things to get and we didn’t even both going to Stanley’s or Whole Foods.  It was a pretty cold and yucky day so I had a feeling we weren’t going out much more.

I played with Mom while Dad went running and then I helped Dad cook some oatmeal.  I took a pretty good nap and had a fun afternoon and evening playing with them.  Here’s some proof:

On Sunday, I got up Dad and we played in my room while I got dressed.  We went downstairs and made breakfast (egg & oatmeal, of course).  But instead of eating them, Dad put them in bowls and packed my backpack.  Then he put my snowpants and looked for my coat.  When it didn’t turn up, he put on my fleece jacket and warned me I’d be cold.  I don’t think Mom would approve!

We ran (well, Dad ran and pushed my stroller) all the way to Milk & Honey, a restaurant I don’t get to go to much because it gets so crowded.  We met Dad’s friend Sam who was so nice and friendly to me.  After lunch, we walked back home and spent the rest of the morning having fun.

When I got up from my nap, I was excited to see that Mom was back from work.  I had a snack and then we went to Target, where we bought a bunch of things for Christmas and I got to drink Starbucks water. I particularly enjoyed throwing Dad’s list on the floor as many times as he would let me.  When we got back home, I helped get everything out of the bags and even helped Mom wrap presents.  What did Mom and Dad ever do before having my help!  I even helped Dad unload the dishwasher.

Last year was very cold, too!

The only TV I get to watch: football!

12/16-18: Holiday Partying

I spent the whole sleeping without my PJs on (thankfully Mom turned up the heat and kept covering me up all night).  I got up at 6:10 and did some potty time before school — and right after peeing in a brand new fresh diaper.  When we got to school, I didn’t want Mom to leave again; I kept using the “one more hug” trick, but eventually she left.  I talked about Mom all day until our holiday party at 3:00!

Mom came over to join in the festivities.  There was so much food! While everyone else was eating the cake, cheese, and crackers, I was going crazy on the fruit!  I was also very thirsty.  Then we had a book exchange and I got a really cool frog book.

Then Santa came and I was kind of scared until he offered me a lollipop and all was cool. I decorated a couple cookies (wow, cookie decorating is all the rage!), but wouldn’t share with Mom until the end!  Then I decorated a picture frame and an ornament and handed out gifts.

We left around 5pm and drove home.  We called Aunt Sarah and then hung up on a call to Grandma Droste and then Maggie-dialed a bunch of Mom’s random work colleague and hung up on them, too.  Mom was surprised I wouldn’t give her the phone back!

I ate fish, carrots, and couscous for dinner and had blueberries for dessert. I talked to Sarah and Grandma Droste on the computer.  Then I sat on my potty for a really long time.  After a talk about not pooping in the bathtub, Mom tried to get me in, but I refused, so Mom resorted to a shower.  I had very dry skin and was sore under my nose, luckily, I really love lotion.

By 7:45 I was very sleepy.  We read one book, Mom talked about the value of keeping my my PJs on, and I went to bed.

Thursday moning was pretty uneventful.  When I got to school, I said “Hi” to everyone and gave people really huge hugs (I think some people were terrified of me!).  I also did really well playing with shape sorters.

I cried almost all he way home.  When we got home, I had a total meltdown.  I wanted to help unload the dishwasher, but couldn’t bring myself to actually do anytihng.  Then I just started walking in circles in the living room — screaming and crying.

Friday I got up with Dad and we had our usual breakfast fun. When I got up from my nap, Grandpapa got me up and we had fun playing until Mom and Dad got home. Here we are having fun at dinner:

Last year I still had a big head!

12/14-15: A Lot More Potty Time

Note my new slippers!

When I woke up, Mom came in to find me stripped down to my PJs, which has become a trend of late.  We had a late breakfast because I spent 35 minutes on my potty — eith my pants off, even!

Grandpa came over at 11 and played with me until lunch time, after which I napped for a couple hours.  Mom and I went to Target from 3-4 and I was so happy to have some Starbucks water!

For dinner, I ate carrots, couscous, hummus, yogurt, and blueberries.  I did 20 more minutes of potty time…only to eventually poop in the bathtub!  When Mom realize that I was pooping, she picked me and made me finish on the adult potty!  I finished up in the shower and then went to bed.

On Tuesday I woke up at 6:10 and got ready for school.  I was happy to have blueberries and O’s for snack before we left.  We got there later than usual — about 7:30.  I asked about Mommy all day and only slept for an hour at naptime.  Mom came to get me at 5:20, but my glove was lost so we took a bit to find it.

At bed time, I decided I wanted to sit on the potty after Mom put my PJs on.  I got naked and sat on there for 20 minutes, until Mom put an end to my stalling and I got in bed around 8:15.

After PJs on, wanted to sit on the potty, so got naked and read books on the potty for 20 mins.  Finally mommy said no more, and got in bed around 8:15.

Last year I was horsing around.

Yet another hat to model!

12/13: Birthday Brunch & Cookie Party

Mini-human shirt?

Dad was pretty desperate this morning. I first started making some noise around 5;30.  He came in and tried to tell me it was still time to sleep.  I responded “no sleep!”  Yet he still left me.  20 minutes later I was calling again.  This time he brought his pillow and tried to sleep on the floor.  Hahahaha!  Then he tried to get me to sleep on the floor with him, as though I would trade my comfy bed for the floor.  Nope.  In fact, I got kind of annoyed and was really, really fussy (and loud).  In fact, for the first time ever, I refused to help Dad cook my egg.  He was shocked.

Oh, here are the last three months’ worth of photo albums. Check out how far I’ve come in just 91 days!

Mom came down and played with me while Dad ran, then I hung out with him while he showered.  Then we headed to picked up Grandpa Yagan for his birthday brunch (stopping by Dad’s favorite bakery in the world, More) at Klay Oven.  We had a lot of fun, though I refused to eat anything other than naan and yogurt.  Until dessert, that is, when I was happy to help eat a cupcake and some mango ice cream.

We rushed home and I took a quick nap before heading to a cookie decorating party and my new friend Harper’s house.  Harper lives a few blocks away and she’s 35 months old — she has a big bed and can go up and down the stairs all by herself!

When we left, we got home and I helped put my laundry in the dryer.  Then I helped Dad cook the fish we prepped last night and cooking carrots.  I ate fairly well given I had eaten a bunch of cookies at Harper’s house.  Then I helped Dad fold my laundry and brushed my teeth with Mom before going to bed.

Last year I wasn’t loving the walking wings.

Happy Birthday Grandpa Yagan!

12/12: A Pretty Slow Saturday

So many pictures of Maggie!

I woke up really, really early this morning and Dad came in and tried to convince me to go back to sleep.  Ha!  Well, I at least amused myself for a while, but soon enough, I was getting loud enough that Dad was afraid if he didn’t come get me, I’d wake up Mom.  We got dressed and then headed downstairs to cook an egg and eat some oatmeal.  Mom came down just before we took off to Dominick’s.  As usual, I enjoyed riding in the big red plastic car attached to Dad’s cart.  I was especially excited to get to the produce section and get my own box of blueberries.

We stopped by the house and picked up Mom.  We dropped her off at the CVS minute clinic and then headed to Whole Foods where we bought fish, milk, and some dill.  We went back to the alleged “minute” clinic and Mom still wasn’t done.  When she came out, she had a sinus infection, and more importantly, a presciption.  She made a quick stop at Filene’s Basement and then headed home.

After lunch, I took a pretty long nap.  Mom, Dad, and I hung out in the office for a bit while Dad went through about 3,000 photos of me and made photo albums for the last three months (coming soon!).  We moved the fun upstairs and Dad and I got our fish and carrots ready to cook tomorrow.  I learned how to make hummus with Dad and pretty much ate just that, before getting a bath and going to bed.

Karaoke, anyone?

12/7-11: Hello, Snow & Julie; Good-bye Ear Infection!

More hat modeling!

I woke up around 6:4 with Rachel, who was here to play with me while Mom had a call for work (even though she was taking the day off!).  I had breakfast with Mom and I was excited to see snow on the ground for the first time this season.  Mom and I braved the elements for  a trip to Target where I got, among other things, new mittens.  They’re so awesome.  I love them!  I pretty much refused to eat lunch and then I took a decent nap (almost two hours).

After I woke up, we hung out in my room and read books all snuggled up in the rocker.  I kept asking “where did the snow go” and then suggesting that perhaps “Mommy wipe it off?”

Grandpa Yagan came over around 3:00 and we had fun, though I had a couple meltdowns.  Mom left around 4:30 for a meeting and I was alone with Grandpa until Rachel came at 5:00.  I wasn’t feeling great and had a couple more meltdowns with Rachel before falling asleep.

On Tuesday morning, Mom woke me up at 5:15 AM (yikes!) and I was in a surprisingly good mood once I actually got up and around.  Mom gave me legit pigtails and off we went.  I figured out that the reason we got up so early is because it takes so much longer to get to school when it’s snowing!  I was the first child at school, so I hung out with Miss Karen in the infant room.  I had a good day at school today, and was teaching all my friends how to do things.  Mom picked me up early (before 4!) and we had a long drive back home in the snow.  Mom didn’t feel well, but we still had a good dinner and a bath before bed.

On Wednesday, Mom woke me up at 5:30 and I was in a much worse mood.  We had a decent ride to school, but I didn’t have a great day at school.  I even got in trouble for taking my shoes and socks off and for being less than gentle in touching my classmates.  The ride home was really slow, so Mom made an exception and let me eat my O’s in the car!  I guess we weren’t going fast enough that I might choke!  When we pulled in the garage, Dad was there waiting for us.  He even jumped up and down when he saw me!

On Thursday, Dadwoke me up around 6:00 and got me ready for school.  Mom and I drove in together and I had a much better day at school.  I was very sweet and helpful.  I even helped pick out the books to read at story time.  It was another slow ride home, but when we pulled in, Dad had dinner ready for us.  He had to go to a dinner, so he didn’t get to spend too much time with us.  Mom and I had dinner, then I had a bath and went to bed.

On Friday morning, Dad made breakfast for me and then I made a new friend — Julie!  Julie is Aunt Claire’s friend from elementary school who now goes to college in Chicago and lives near she us.  She came over to babysit and play with me while Dad worked.  We had so much fun together!  Then right before lunch, Dad ran me to the Doctor’s office to make sure my ear infection was all gone.  It is!  I even got my second h1N1 vaccine, so I should be all good to go.  Of course, I took my doctor’s kit with me, which made my doctor laugh.

After lunch I took a nap and then Mom was here when I got up.  Mom wasn’t feeling great, so we just hung out and played.  We even fixed our hair in matching pigtails!  I talked to both Grandma Droste and Grandpa Droste and Aunt Sarah on the webcams.

Last year I was hanging out with Grandma Droste!

12/6: Bye-Bye, Daddy!

Nice glove, to you, too.

I got up with Dad and we made breakfast and hung out until Mom came down.  Dad had to do some work for a conference he was going to, so he went downstairs and I played with Mom.  Then the three of us took a quick walk to the park and the bank.  It was sunny, but really chilly.  My gloves are really cute, but they don’t really fit, so I had a mini-meltdown when I didn’t want my gloves on but I was cold without them.

Mom got my lunch ready and while I was eating, Dad had to leave to go to the conference.  He was really sad and kept giving me hugs and kisses.  Finally, I just said “bye-bye Daddy!”  He was shocked but took the hint that I was going to be fine without him.

After lunch Mom tried to get me to nap, but I refused.  I spent about 90 minues in my crib, but finally Mom gave up.  I came downstairs and watched part of the Bears game (a rare win!) and also talked to Grandma and Grandpa Droste on the webcam.  Then Mom invented a game called “photo shoot” which I think was just an excuse for her to take pictures of me.

Finally, it was time for dinner and my bath.  I was in bed by 7:30.

Last year I had my first (of many) ear infection.

Think I have a future as a hat model?

12/5: Party, Party!

Cheer up, Santa. I mean, you're SANTA!

Dad and I got up together, had breakfast, and went off to our usual grocery store trip.  Our regulars weren’t at Dominick’s, so it wasn’t nearly as fun as usual.  We got back and I played with Mom while Dad went for a run.

Then we all hopped in the car and headed off as if we were going to school.  It turns out that Mom’s work had a children’s Christmas party!  There were games, a puppet show (that looked an awful lot like Abby Caddaby!), and even Santa himself paid a visit.  I was also excited to see Thomas and Kiera — my friends who I talk so much about at home.

After a couple hours there, we hopped in the car and instead of going home, headed to my friend Naima’s 2nd birthday party!  There was plenty of dancing, eating, singing, and cookie decorating.  We went up to her room and I was so impressed that she has a big girl’s bed!  When we left, I got a gift bag with really awesome stickers, which I’m sure I’ll be playing with for a while.

Needless to say, I was pooped!  I took a nap that pretty much went right up until dinner.  Then I ate and went right back to sleep!

Dad, when it comes to cookie decorating, you're no Grandma Droste!

12/4: Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

 Hondas, woo!

I woke up with Dad this morning and he spent most of the morning playing with me even though it was a Friday!  We hung out in my room for a while and then went downstairs to “cook-ah egg-ah.”  After I ate, Dad made me get in my snow pants (which I fought against), put me in the car, and drove downtown.  It was really cold outside, but I was plenty warm in our car.

Then Dad dropped the car off at the repair shop and we had to get home on our own in the car.  Boy was I glad I was wearing my snow pants!  But the best part of it all was that we got to take a CITY BUS home.  I love busses and while school busses are cool, I love city busses!

We spent the rest of the morning inside, playing and reading:

When I got up from my nap, Mom was here and we had some fun before our design consultant came by to take us all shopping.  Our first shop was The White Attic, just up the street from our house.   Then we went to Design within Reach and Room and Board.  They all seemed the same to me.  I wanted to touch everything but they wouldn’t let me do too much.  Lots of people thought I was cute though.

After we finished up, we headed back to the shop and picked up our car and headed home (and called Grandpa to wish him happy birthday!).  We were running late, so dinner was quick and I was off to bed — but not before practing how to hop.

You can't catch me!

11/30-12/3: Back to Normal

Playing on the other side of the gate!

After a whirlwind of family fun for the last few days, this week was a whole lot of back to normal.  Dad was working from home on Monday and Grandpa came over to play with me.  Here I am snacking on some bread:

On Tuesday morning, Mom woke me up at 6:05.  I was in a good mood and didn’t have a runny nose (perhaps those are related?).  We got ready for school and listened to Christmas music in the car on the way in.  I get the sense that Mom really likes it!  I had a good day at school, especially interacting with the other kids.  I also strutted my stuff — dancing and buliding towers.  The ride home was good.  We sang Jingle Bells and Oh, Christmas Tree.  I ate pretty well, finishing all the turkey leftovers and having a bit of lentil burger.  The highlight of my day was seeing Aunt Sarah and Dustin on the computer!

Wednesday was another day at school.  I spent as much time as possible on the climber and I was even more social than usual.

Thursday I was all about the slide and taking sneak peeks into the infant room.  I was the teachers’ pet, too, heping them out and teaching my classmates how to go down the slide!

Last year it was already snowing!

Water?
