11/22-11/28: I’m a Big Sister; Welcome, Jack!

Monday was a pretty fun day with Julie.  I woke up with Dad and took a shower efore getting dressed and heading downstairs for breakfast.  It was raining pretty hard, but Julie let me put on my rainboots and go out in the yard for a few minutes when the rain stopped.  Dad was working from home and came up to visit me a bunch of times when he took breaks.

On Tuesday, Dad took me to school and I had a fun day at school.  Not surprisingly, this week’s theme is Thanksgiving!  We spent a lot of time talking about Turkeys and the letter T.  Nana & Jiddo picked me up and played with me until Dad got home to get my dinner ready and put me to bed.

I woke up on Wednesday with Aunt Claire, which was a little surprising since it’s usually Dad’s day.  She got me dressed for school and dropped me off.  We did more Thanksgiving stuff and then before I knew it Nana & Jiddo & Danny came to get me.  All they could talk about was that I had become a big sister and that we were all going to the hospital to see Mom.

When we got there I was greeted by Mom & Dad (and Grandma & Grandpa Droste).  I gave Mom a huge hug and sat on her very goofy bed (it had buttons that made it go up and down!).  Then Grandma Droste brought over the baby that just came out of Mommy’s tummy: a little baby boy named Jack!

I was so excited to hold him and hug him and kiss him!  I was even more excited that he brought me a little gift that I could play with! I got to hang out with Jack for about half an hour and then it was time to go home with Grandma and Grandpa Droste.  A bit later, Dad and Uncle Danny got home and we ordered Picante (I love their soft tacos!) for dinner, which I devoured.

On Thursday I woke up with Dad and then spent the morning with Grandma before heading over to the hospital to visit Mom and Jack.  I hung out in their room for about 45 minutes and then Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Danny went to the cafeteria for lunch.  After some more visiting with Mom and Jack, I went home with Grandma and Grandpa.

Dad woke up with me again on Friday and  I spent the morning with Grandma and Grandpa until about 11:30, when Mom and Dad came in the door — with Jack!  I greeted Jack and got to hold him very carefully on the couch.

I ate with Grandma while Mom, Dad, and Jack got situated upstairs.  Then I went up and took a nap.

I was so excited to wake up with Aunt Sarah!  I miss her so much.  She got me up and we played until dinner time.  I ate Grandma’s chili (and had a chili-eating contest with her!) and got three treats (two for having no accidents and a bonus one for being a great big sister) before going to bed.

I had a really fun weekend, including playing with Jack (and giving him a bath), picking out a Christmas tree, and my second Thanksgiving dinner!

Last year I helped Grandpa fix the sink.

11/15-11/21: The Circus!

There certainly seems to be an increased sense of preparation for the new baby coming to our family.  Mom and Dad set up the baby’s nursery in their room, using my old crib and my old dresser.  The exciting news is that I got a brand new dresser that I got to pick out all by myself!

I’m not sure what all is going to change when I’m a big sister, but it’s all anyone can talk about around here.

The theme of school this week was the circus.  I hadn’t really heard about the circus before, but it was fun to learn about.  It seems so cool to see lions, elephants, tigers and dancers all in one place.

Nana and Jiddo also came back from Syria this week and they missed me so much.  They started picking me up from school every day and so they got to see my school and meet my teachers.  They also got really excited to learn that we’re studying the circus, so they bought me tickets to go to the circus htis weekend!  I’m so excited!

Here I am inspecting my new dresser:

And here’s Dad talking to my chili:

On Sunday, Nana, Jiddo, and I went to the circus.  IT was so fun.  I went potty twice and ate popcorn and other yummy treats.  I was so happy to sit close enough to be able to see but far enough so that the animals wouldn’t scare me.  Nana and Jiddo bought me an elephant as a souvenir!  I can’t wait to tell my friends at school that I got to see the real circus!

Last year I discovered my first favorite song.

11/08-11/14: Dino-myte Pictures

This was an exciting week at school, with the theme of dinosaurs and our official picture day!  I really like dinosaurs; my favorite one is stegosaurus. I’m the only person in my class with that favorite dinosaur.  I like being unique.

I got to bring in the dinosaurs that Grandma and I made last weekend and even got to be own dinosaur: Maggie-osaurus.

Picture day was Thursday and I was very lucky that my stylish Aunt Claire was responsible for taking me to school and making sure I look great.

Last year, Nana left for Syria.

11/1-11/07: Homework?

The weather is still beautiful and I had another great week.  The theme at school is the zoo, so we had a lot of play and work about zoos.

During Circle time we did our weather and calendar, made a book of our first and last names, read Baby Koala, looked at different zoo animals and talked about different foods they eat (penguins – fish, giraffes – leaves, lions – meat, polar bears – meat, fish, etc.).

Next week my theme at school is dinosaurs!  And I even got homework.  Since I don’t have anything dinosaur-related to bring to show-and-tell, Grandma got really creative and helped me make a couple dinosaurs to take to school.

On Sunday I watched the Bears game with Mom and Dad and started learning how to catch:

Last year, I got a flu shot.

10/25-10/31: I’m a Red Beta Fish!

Halloween week was really fun, with a halloween party at school and of course trick-or-treating with the family.  Of course, the theme at school this week was Halloween.  I got to wear my red beta fish costume — thanks Mom for ordering it for me!

We all had a great time telling the class about our costumes and sharing our Halloween show and tell.  We read books called Scarecrows Halloween Words.

I had an especially fun time shopping with Dad on Satuday and doing the rest of our weekly errands (and other errands like pumpkin picking!).

On Sunday I helped Dad cook and he even let me cut tomatoes with a really sharp knife!  Of course, I like tomoatoes so much that I ate about half of all the tomatoes I cut up!

And finally after we were done cooking, it was time for trick-or-treating:

As an extra-special treat, we even stopped by Julie’s house; she got me some ice-cream for my Halloween snack.

Last year I was a kangaaroo!

10/18-10/24: Farms & Aunt Sarah

We had another week of beautiful weather and another week of fun at school.  This week, our theme was farms.  Our library books focused on farms, both fiction and nonfiction.  We read When the Rooster Crowed, talked about things on a farm (animals, tractors, crops), completed calendar and weather chart, looked at pictures of friends, and, of course, sang a tractor song.

Here’s a random video of me hanging out with Dad:

But the biggest highlight of the week was that Aunt Sarah came to visit us and spent all day Friday playing with me.  We had so much fun!

Last year I hung out in Grandpa Droste’s shop.

10/11-10/17: A Beautiful Week

Well, Dad was gone all week on a business trip so I got a bunch of quality time with Mom and Aunt Claire.

My theme at school this week was bears!

Our library books focused on bears, both fiction and nonfiction.  Today our class read Corduroy by Don Freeman.  We also had a new friend start today, his name is Asher.  We now have 14 girls and 2 boys in our class.

On Tuesday we focused on learning about the letter F and on Thursday it was Drake’s birthday so we all got a yummy birthday treat.

The weekend continued  a week of unseasonably beautiful weather!  On Saturday we had fun outside in the yard and then more fun inside after I changed out of my wet clothes.

On Sunday, Dad and I went for a walk around the block looking for leaves to take to school!

Last year, I started soccer practice!

10/4-10/10: I’m Healed; Thanks, Milk!

I had a great week, starting off with my visit to the hospital on Monday.  It’s been 4 months since I broke the three bones in my hand and the doctors were checking to see if my bones were still growing like they’re supposed to.  Yep, they sure are!  I did a great job getting X-rayed and my bones are looking great.  It’s a good thing I drink so much milk!

School was fun this week; the theme was pets.  We had so many things to do with our pets that the days were really busy.

During circle time we updated our calendar and weather chart, talked about animals that people have for pets, looked at different pictures of pets, read The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!, and sang a song called “Six Little Dogs”

Dad was at his annual Vegas trip over the weekend, so I hung out with Mom & Aunt Claire.

Last year I met Jake.

9/27-10/3: My First Day at School

On Monday I had orientation at the school I’m going to be starting at tomorrow. Mom and Dad took me to school and I spent a couple hours playing with the kids and teachers. Everyone seemed really nice!

Mom & Dad had been talking about my new school for a while, but I didn’t realize just what a big deal it would actually be.  On Tuesday, Dad woke up with me and Aunt Claire got up extra-early to be part of my big day.  It’s been about three months since I left the day care I used to go to.  We got all ready to go and off we went!

I was so excited to get to school and spend more time with my teachers and my new friends.  I had a wonderful first day, except that I didn’t want to use the potty at the times my teachers told me told.  I’m used to going whenever I want — not whenever someone else tells me to!

The theme this week is “All About Me.”  We’re reading books about families and learning about all of our body parts.  Oh, and we even had a fire drill!

Dad picked me up from school and I was so happy to see him.  We got home and had a family dinner with Mom and Aunt Claire.  On Wednesday Aunt Claire took me to school and I had another great day.  Thursday was good, too!

On Friday, I was so excited that Mom stayed home and played with me all day, except for when she had a doctor’s appointment  and I hung out with Aunt Claire.

Saturday morning started off as usual, with a trip to the grocery store, but then we went to Target and Mom & Dad bought me a big girl’s bed!  Apparently I’m giving my crib to the baby and I get to sleep in a bed that I can get into and out of all by myself.

I think I’m officially a big girl now!
