7/2-7/3: A Parade, then Dow

Midnight Dance Party!

The big event on Thursday was the Independence Day parade at school!  We all had to wear red, white, and blue to school and then we all paraded around in the parking lot to celebrate America’s birthday!

Mom picked me up from school a bit earlier than usual, but we ran into pretty bad traffic on the way home.  Dad was there waiting for us and with my dinner ready.  After I ate, Mom and Dad packed up all my stuff and we all hopped in the car and headed to Dow!  I fell asleep about 20 minutes into the drive and was out like a light until we got to Grandma and Grandpa Droste’s.  Everyone was so excited to see me and we ended up having an impromptu dance party at 12:30 AM!  Needless to say, I didn’t have a typical night’s sleep.  I actually couldn’t fall sleep in my crib and — for the first time ever — I slept with Mom & Dad in their bed!

Finally at 5:45, Mom and I got up (Dad slept in) and we hung out with Aunt Claire.  Dad got up and we all went to Shake & Steak for breakfast with  Great Uncle Michael and Great Grandpa Harris.  In this case “all” included one more person than usual: Aunt’ Sarah’s boyfriend, Dustin, is spending the weekend at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s, too.   (I saw him at my midnight  dance party, but  was a bit too tired to remember.)  I got to sit right across from him at breakfast and he was really nice to me!

Toward the end of breakfast (after I had been running around the restaurant, even almost into the kitchen!), I had a dirty diaper.  Normally, that would have been fine, but Mom & Dad forgot to bring diapers down to Dow, so Dad and I ran to Target,  bought some diapers, and he changed me in the Target bathroom.  I got back all  happy and dry.   It was good to hear Great Grandpa’s imitation of Donald the Duck!

When we got home, I was  exhausted and Dad put me down for nap very easily.   After I woke up and had lunch, we went to Great Grandma Droste’s.  She was really excited to see me!  I like her house because it has ramps, toys, and all kinds of new things I’m not used to.

After my afternoon nap I was really fussy.  I pretty much refused dinner and cried all the way through my bath with Grandma Droste.  Once I got to sleep, I slept all the wy through the night

6/29-7/1: Finally, Back to My Schedule!

My Maggie-sized chair

I woke up Monday morning with Mom  and was happy to see Nana waiting for me when we went downstairs.  I had a great morning, including  fun times in the yard and a really big breakfast.  We read a lot, I had a good nap, and then I devoured a huge lunch (with much more rice than usual).  While the housekeepers were here, Nana and I hung out in my bedroom, where we had a  photo shoot (using Nana’s camera, so I don’t even have copies of the pictures!).

The afternoon was great, with more time outside and more yummy food.  When Mom got here I was in a great mood and we had a lot of fun together.  I also got  my first piece of furniture in a while — a chair just for me!  Some of you may have noticed that I’ve spent a lot of time sitting in my booster chair recently, so Mom and Dad got me an easy chair!

Tuesday was my first day back at school in forever!  I didn’t cry at all in the morning or on the way to school.  I was a little sad when Mom left me, but I cheered up pretty quickly.  I was especially excited for the milk at snack time!  I was also excited to find another puppy at school, so I dont’ have to bring my own from home.  I had chicken nuggets for lunch.  My teachers told Mom how impressed they were impressed at my vocabulary!

Back at home, I had edamame for the first time in months. I wasn’t nearly as tired as I’ve been on previous school days, but I was ready for bed nonetheless!

Wednesday morning was a bit fussy — I think the tiredness from yesterday kicked in this morning!  I ate well and went for a walk to the park with Nana.  I was in a great mood the rest of the day, but when I woke up from my afternoon nap with a little congestion, Nana was a bit over-protective and dressed me in Mom’s winter hat!

A year ago I had my first days without Mom!

It’s July!

6/28: The Farmer’s Market is Back

Grandpa, give me Starbucks!

I got up this morning with Dad and we had a really fun time in the morning.  We read books and played (and even took a quick trip to the park, where we were the only people!) until breakfast.  After I ate, Uncle Danny came upstairs and wanted to play with me.  It was a beautiful day, so the three of us all went back to the park.  It was a little after 8:00 and now the park was teeming with little kids and their parents.

After we’d been at the park a little bit, Mom joined us!  All four of played and ran around for a while.  On our way home, Mom and I walked through the farmer’s market.

After my nap, it was time for grandpa’s super-official father’s day brunch at India House.  I really love Indian food!  It was really good and  I got lots of compliments from  the staff who was impressed that little ol’ me had such an adventurous palette!

After lunch,  Uncle Danny invited everyone to Starbucks.  I finally got to  have a drink at Starbucks.

By the time we got home I was ready for my nap.  After I got up and ate, Mom, Dad, Uncle Danny, and I were going to go to the park, but it was getting late, so we just played in the yard until bedtime!

Hey, why is everyone laughing at me?

6/27: Unc!

Kisses from Unc

I woke up this morning with Dad, as usual for a Saturday.  We took a really early trip to the grocery store and saw the usual crew of people who are always so nice to us!  We didn’t seem to buy as much as usual, but we still played the sticker game in the  produce section, where I stick a sticker on Dad’s nose…and he can never find it so I have to find it for him!  He definitely gets funny looks when he walks around the store with a sticker on his nose!

Oh, here’s my photo album from May:

We got back and I had breakfast and then took a nap.  When I got up, Uncle Danny was here!  He seems to have made it his mission to get me to call him “Unc” (conveniently similar to my favorite word, “uck”).  We played and had fun until it was time for lunch with Nana and Grandpa.  We went to Portillo’s and had a really good meal.    It was crazy-busy, but it was one of the first times that I was allowed to order off the real menu instead of bringing my own food!  I got the kids pasta with a really big meatball in the middle!  It was sooooo good.

After lunch we came back home and hung out (Unc stayed at Nana’s and Grandpa’s).  I  took a nap and then we hopped in the car and went to…Nana’s and Grandpa’s!  We had a really fun time and I romped all around their home.  It was really fun to have all the Yagan side of the family together!

We would have stayed longer, but it was my bed time, so we talk off right at 7:00 (with Unc).

6/25-6/26: Back to School!!

That’s Mama!

I woke up at 5:25 this morning and for the first time in three weeks, I went to pre-school!  I drove to school with Mom and we sang a bunch of  songs, including “The Wheels on The Bus.”  I was really fussy when Mom left.

I had a rough morning at school.  I  insisted on being held most of the morning, so the teachers took me out of the classroom and let me take a special nap in the office.  I felt a lot better when I woke up and went back and joined my friends.  For lunch I had (I think!) my first hamburger ever!    I also really enjoyed playing with bubbles, which I was doing when Mom came to get me.

On the ride home, I kept saying “out” because, well, I wanted to get out!  Mom taught me that I can get out when we get “home.”  So,  whenever I said “out” she would say “when can we get out” and I would say “home.”  This was one of my first “conversations” ever!  I’m really enjoying my rides with Mom, and I think the more I learn to talk, the more fun it will be!

I had a bit of a rough dinner (but I hugged my bread!) and wasn’t too friendly to Dad when he got home.

Friday morning I got up at 6:00 with Dad.  I was really, really fussy.  I kept wanting him to pick me “up” but he refused to pick me up if I was crying.  If  I asked nicely, he picked me up.  Hmm.

Nana came at 8:00 and we had a really good morning.  The roof guys were here again, but they didn’t stay long and  they were much quieter this time.  We got spend a lot more time outside and finally after my afternoon nap I got to play with Dad until Mom got home.

Dad tried to give me my bath today, but I was just as resistant.  He just let me cry while he washed me.  I went to bed pretty quickly.

Plums are the new strawberries.

6/24: Happy Birthday Aunt Sarah!

Couch Potato Head

Happy Birthday Aunt Sarah!!

The big excitement today was that we were having work done on our roof, so there were guys in and out all day.  And man, they were loud!  I got up at 4:45 and hung out with Mom until Nana got here.  When Mom left I was a bit clingy, so  Nana came up with the idea of going outside and visiting the fire hydrant (just like the one Elmo has!).   Not only do I really like my fire hydrant, but also I get to wave bye-bye to Mom one last time when she drives by us!

My morning was pretty  normal, except that I had to sleep in the family room because of all the banging on the roof.  In fact, in the afternoon, I could only sleep for about an hour because of all the noise.

I had 4 poops today, which was strange.  I bet my teachers at pre-school hope I get that under control before tomorrow!  Mom was home early today and took  over around 5:00.  I ate a pretty good dinner, but was somewhat tired when I finished.  Again, I resisted my bath and ended up staying up until 8:00 as Mom hoped that the roofers would be done.  They hadn’t left by 8:00, but I was so tired that I went to sleep despite the noise.

Last year, I had fallen quite behind on my blog!

6/23: Another Day Home from School

I love this book!

It was a game-time decision whether I’d go to  pre-school today, but ultimately Mom decided to keep me home and Nana was nice enough to cancel her plans to stay home with me again.  I had a great morning, despite a little runny nose that’s still lingering.

I had a good snack, took a long (2-hour) nap, and woke up in a great mood.  I ate a ton (practically licking clean the bowl of Nana’s Zucchini).  I was feeling so good after lunch that I even danced — something I haven’t done in quite a few days.  I devoured a huge snack (making up for the food I didn’t feel like eating for the last week or two) before my nap.

I had a good dinner with Mom and went to bed (no bath, thankfully!).

Last year I hung out with Dr. Nick.

Yum, berries!

6/22: A Rough Morning & Smooth Afternoon

Nana hasn’t made me a bed in months!

Today started out a  bit rough; I was up at 4:30 AM and cried quite a bit.  I didn’t have a fever, but Mom had to get up and console me until I fell back asleep at 5:10.  I got up again before Mom left and sure enough, Nana was here to hang out with me, as usual.

I ate a really good breakfast, but was much fussier than usual, with a runny nose and a pretty deep cough.  Nana tried to put me down for a nap at  9, but I wouldn’t fall asleep for an hour despite Nana trying every trick in the book (finally she put me in my stroller, where I fell asleep when she walked me around!).  She took me out and put me on the little bed she made for me, just like she used to back in the fall.  Luckily  when I slept, I slept well — for almost two hours.

My afternoon was much better — I think I’m beating this thing now.  I had a really good lunch and slept much more peacefully from 3:45-5:00.  Mom got home and I ate a great dinner, including my new favorite: salmon.

Despite my protests, Mom insisted on giving me a bath.  I pooped on my way out, so I think I won in the end.

Remember when I used to wear onesies?

One of those days…

6/21: Happy Father’s Day!

My turn to do the feeding!

Happy Father’s Day to Dad, Grandpa Droste, Grandpa  Yagan, and Great-grandpa Harris !  Just like last Father’s Day, Mom got up with me so Dad could sleep in. Mom and I cooked breakfast for Dad — he loves pancakes!  When he finally got up we had breakfast together.   Not only did I get to eat the pancakes but Dad even let me feed him!

Mom & Dad & I had a fun morning together and then after my nap we headed over to Nana’s and Grandpa’s to celebrate Father’s Day again.  I really, really love Indian food!  I had really like the Dal that Dad made me a few months ago, but it was even better to eat adult Indian food.  We had a great time together and played until it was time for us to go home so I could take my nap.

The big news in the evening was that Mom gave me my first haircut ever today — just the part in front of my eyes.  I’m sure the longest piece she cut wasn’t even an inch long, but it was a big deal!

A year ago I was back in the Chi!

Nice cheek, Grandpa!

6/20: Out and About!

Before: notice how long my bangs are.

Well, today was almost back to a normal Saturday.  Dad had promised Mom that he wouldn’t take me to the store early in the morning, but ultimately he convinced her after I was feeling even better after breakfast.  We shot a lot of video today, so there’s no need to write too much.

Last year was my last day in NYC…and I haven’t been back to visit!
