11/23: Moonshine is Better than Cranberries

Cranberries, EWWWWW!

Sunday morning got off to a pretty usual start with Dad getting up with me in the morning.  Mom got up very soon thereafter and we hung out a bunch.  Mom put me to bed and Dad went for a run before we met up with four of Mom’s and Dad’s friends at Moonshine.  After brunch, we made a beeline for home so Dad could catch the rest of the Bears game.  Mom left for a couple hours in the afternoon to go shopping and I took a really, really long nap, allowing Dad to get some cooking done and to have the house pretty much straightened up by the time Mom got home.  We had some fun family time in the evening (including my first ever game of catch!) before I turned in for bed!

11/22: Up and at ‘Em

DAD, Stop kissing me!

Dad got up with me in the morning and after a bottle and some playtime, we took off for Lowe’s, which I’ve never been to before.  It seemed just like Home Depot only really a lot farther away.  Our big purchases (literally and figuratively) were two big pieces of plexiglass.  We got a couple other things, too, before heading to whole foods, where Dad bought a bunch of food that I’m going to be eating over the next few weeks.  Finally, we got back home, where Mom had my breakfast ready for me.

I had yet another trip to the doctor’s office to get yet another dose of vaccinations.  Gee, I’m so glad that my parents decided to spread them out so I could get poked every month!  Dad weighed me while the nurse was out of the room and I came in at 19 lb, 3 oz!  Definitely heavier than a bowling ball now!

After I took a nap, Mom, Dad, and I went to Dominick’s, where we had a much quicker visit than usual because of the short week coming up.  Dad spent most of the day on his Maggie-proofing projects upstairs: finishing the gate and installing the two pieces of plexiglass along the railing in the hallway.

Mom’s so fun!

11/17-11/21: My Last Week with Nana & Grandpa Yagan

Only 1 chin!

On Monday I started yet another  new food (two, actually!): amaranth & peaches.  It was a welcome change from cereal and prunes which I have almost every day for breakfast.  When do I get oatmeal?  I hear that’s good!  I had a very slight rash on my cheek this morning, but it went away by the end of the day.

The amaranth & peaches tasted a lot worse the second time around, and really my whole day was a bit off.  I wasn’t in the mood for much lunch and I was a little fussier than usual.

Wednesday was better and the big news on Thursday was that I started yet another new food: green beans and mint.  Mom had a work dinner to go to but Dad got home just in time to give me a bath and put me to bed.

Dad worked from home on Friday, so I got to see him everytime he came upstairs.  I spent most of the day with Nana until Grandpa came to cover for her in the afternoon.

11/15-11/16: Thanksgiving?

My fleece is Dad’s favorite item in my wardrobe…

So this was a pretty exciting weekend as we celebrated Thanksgiving (early!) with Dad’s sie of the family. (We’re going to be spending real Thanksgiving with the Drostes.) Uncle D had flown in a couple nights before to celebrate with us. But the first order of business on Saturday morning was to finish the move from Bourbonnais that we started last night. Dad had left his key’s in Nana’s car, so Uncle D headed over to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s apartment and came back with the keys. Uncle D then drove me over to their apartment while Dad drove the moving truck. Dad and Uncle D (and Grandpa!) worked hard unloading the truck while I hung out with Nana. Dad had only packed one meal and not enough diapers, so there was a bit of a time constraint to get done before I got hungry or dirty!

Eventually, I got food and diapers and by about 5:00, Nana, Grandpa, Uncle D, and I headed home. Dad had been home most of the day cooking Thanksgiving dinner! We had turkey, cranberry stuffing, mashed sweet potato, and corn cake pudding. Well, they had all those things! At least I got to have turkey…I made it half way through dinner before falling asleep.

Dad spent Sunday on a couple child-proofing projects. I hung out with Mom and Uncle D. But mostly it was a pretty laid-back day with the fam. Dad worked on putting together my 7th month photo album, though. So, enjoy:

My turkey doesn’t look like that!

11/14: Uncle D & Bourbonnais!

In Nana’s & Grandpa’s old house…

The excitement today centered around Uncle Danny’s arrival!  It was great to have Uncle Danny around.  We got to hang out a bunch and he got to practice doing a bunch of things like feeding me!

We also had a trip to the house where Dad and Uncle Danny grew up in Bourbonnais, IL.  Nana and Grandpa lived there until a couple weeks ago when they moved up to Chicago.  We rode down in Nana’s and Grandpa’s car which is much more comfortable that Mom’s and Dad’s!  I slept the whole way.

When we got there, Dad & Uncle Danny started loading up a truck with things to take to Nana’s and Grandpa’s apartment.  I mostly hung out with Grandpa while Nana got things organized for the people who will be renting the house.

We had a mini-disaster at dinner, though.  Grandpa was feeding me, but we had a perfect storm: I was a little bit flustered by the new environment, I was starting a new food (quinoa) with a texture I had never had before, and I didn’t have a high chair to sit at.  So, I gagged on the quinoa a couple times and wasn’t even interested in the blueberries that Dad packed for dessert.

Uncle D drove back and, not surprisingly, I slept all the way home!

Hangin’ in Dad’s old room!

11/10-11/13: I’m 8!

All ready for winter!

Monday was a fun day.  Dad was working from home and so I got to see him whenever he came upstairs.  My days (especially weekdays) are starting to get more structured and predictable.  My morning nap now comes at just about 9:00, by which time I’ve already had my early morning bottle (around 6:00) and breakfast (at 7:30 or 7:45).  Mom had a doctor’s appointment and so was home extra early.

Tuesday was my birthday!  To celebrate, I think, I got to start a new really yummy fruit: cherries!  Also, Mom & Nana decided to try going down to seven ounces per bottle (6:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 7:00 pm).  Also, now that Grandpa & Nana have an apartment in Chicago, they aren’t always both at home with me; in fact, they are starting to split shifts a little more, with Grandpa often covering the late afternoon until Mom gets home.

Wednesday was cold and rainy — and I’m getting the sense that I should be expecting a lot more of this to come.  I didn’t get to leave the house for even a second today.

Thursday was cold, but dry and sunny.  I finally got to sport my new winter coat, hat, and mittens.   Nana and I went to say goodbye to Wicker Park, just in case it isn’t a fun destination in the winter.

I’m definitely moving around a lot more now.  I can scoot backward really well and often find myself pinned under, behind, around something I can’t get away from!

Peek-a-Boo!

11/9: Maggie-Proofing

Everyone needs painter’s tape…

Mom & Dad seem to have gotten pretty serious about Maggie-proofing the house this weekend.  Dad even co-opted my services to help!  As you can see, I was in charge of hanging on to the painter’s tape while Dad installed the very first baby gate in our house.

The one he installed was the one that Great Grandma Droste gave me before I was even born — at my baby shower.  He put it in the hallway downstairs, so it cuts off the office from all the dangerous stuff — the two sets of stairs, the bathroom, the bedroom, the laundry room, and the mechanical closet!

Then, right before bedtime, I decided to practice shrieking — a new skill I’ve picked up recently.  Dad thought a doo-rag was a good idea.  Um, no.

I’m pissed.

11/8: Coat Shopping

Almost enough hair for a mohawk

Mom & Dad decided that today would be the day to go family coat  shopping.  Well, not for Dad, but for me and Mom. We looked at a bunch of places (Old Navy, Gap, Carter’s), but everything for little girls was pink or frilly, and for some reason Mom & Dad didn’t go for those.  I tried a few coats on (to figure out what size would be best) and then eventually Mom & Dad decided to buy it online.

Then Mom got into the act and we looked for a coat for her.  I was surprised that they didn’t have ANY pink or frilly coats for her!  She ended up getting a really long black coat from Patagonia.

Ewwww, mammals!

11/7: Venturing Out in the Cold

My pouch rocks!

Today was a pretty regular day.  I’ll leave it to the pictures!

You can do a one-arm push-up, too, right?

11/6: Figuring Stuff Out

I’ll figure out this blanket thing…

I came downstairs at 6:45 in a great mood.  I played with Nana until breakfast, with even more walking than usual.  After my usual breakfast of cereal and prunes, I was still in a great mood.  I had a pretty big meal for lunch and then took a nice long nap in the afternoon.

We didn’t get to go outside at all today because it was raining all day and it definitely feels like it’s getting colder!

And thsi strap, too!
